Duplicity - Thriller, Drama, Love and Betrayal
The movie Duplicity, in which a lawyer in search of justice finds himself in a story full of betrayal and deception, is definitely worth seeing for its twist ending.
The story, which develops after the husband of a successful lawyer's best friend is murdered by the police, is presented as a racist attack for a while.
On the way to the truth, the character of lawyer Marley Wells (played by Kat Graham) solving the case with the help of a private detective creates a dark atmosphere full of intrigue.
The uprising of the city after the incident, which is attributed to a racist attack, and the financial bargaining of the parties behind the scenes push the audience to different emotions.
Although it is mentally and emotionally disturbing to know the parts of the story that are shown to the public and the facts that are kept secret from the public, it is possible to say that the real disturbance revolves around the financial bargain that reaches the level of disgust.
Even though this is not the main theme of the movie, I must say that I like the fact that it emphasizes it in a serious way. I would say that the screenplay is more satisfying than the story or the performances of the actors.
Watching the struggle of a lawyer who is unaware of what is about to happen is of course valuable and I am almost sure that it motivates everyone who is going through similar struggles, but the direct scaling of the lives lost with money is just as disturbing. Perhaps knowing what goes on behind the scenes is worse than not knowing.
For the story of the movie, it is possible to say that it is the truth in today's world and lives. The questioning of people through the sense of loyalty and the fact that almost everything is scaled in material terms reveals the side that we already know but are ignorant of.
In terms of performances, Kat Graham shows a determined and resolute stance as Marley. Her determination is palpable and exemplary and her desperation at the end of the movie is as impressive as her determination to find a solution.
In general terms, the movie is in the genre of crime thriller, but the complexity that emerges as the story progresses pushes the movie to confront the intrigue that revolves around emotions such as betrayal, loyalty and the fact that material interests are above all else.
The criticisms that can be made can be summarized as the lack of depth in the story and the disconnected connections in the plot. I think the movie looks a little above average because of the mistakes made in small places, but I can still say that it was successful in terms of watchability.
I recommend you to watch the movie, which has elements of suspense and drama and has a different story with a little bit of quotations from almost every genre instead of belonging to a few specific genres. Another recommendation would be to ignore some of the gaps in the story because this way your viewing pleasure will not be interrupted.
Thank you for being here and for reading. Take care and goodbye!
