From Black

From Black, which tells the story of a mother who, after the tragic loss of her child, suddenly finds herself in the hands of supernatural forces in order to escape her feelings of guilt and despair, was successful in the way it reflected horror and suspense.

The story, which centers on a mother and her lost child, is character-driven for a while, but then, thanks to supernatural forces, it combines the elements of suspense and horror in a very simple and successful narrative.

The main character Cora (played by Anna Camp), who plays the role of the mother, manages to effectively convey her feelings of guilt and helplessness. After the emotional turmoil she goes through, she multiplies her performance with the dramatic process of placing her hope in supernatural forces.

From the moment she surrenders to the supernatural forces, she contributes to the horror aspect of the movie and perfectly portrays the desperation of a mother. The story and the characters were in perfect harmony, but I can't help but think that if the horror element could have been handled a little more successfully during the moments of high tension, a perfect horror movie would have been created.

Nevertheless, they managed to create a claustrophobic and unsettling atmosphere using the classic elements of the horror genre. The darkness, the silence, and the sudden noise that breaks the silence is a joy for the viewer who can focus on the story. I think the director deserves extra praise for a few touches.

In fact, the movie should not be seen only as a production that combines horror and thriller elements. The grieving process, guilt, helplessness and psychological weakness of a mother who has lost her child are other elements that are emphasized in the story of the film. As a result of all this, the theme of supernatural forces is combined with the ritual and what happens during the ritual. In general terms, I can say that this blending forms the dramatic basis.

One of the negative aspects of the film can be seen as its slow pace, but in moments where purely human emotions are highlighted, I am not against the story moving slowly because sometimes there is a lack of dialog or character stillness to make the emotions understandable. This helps to fully understand both the story and what the main character is going through.

I would use the word cliché for some of the horror scenes used in the movie. All of the scenes that seem conventional and ritualistic involve what happens during the ritual, but I must add that it was successful in creating the desired atmosphere of fear.

I recommend you to watch From Black, which stands out with its visual atmosphere and strong acting. I can say that it is definitely worth watching with its drama aspect, which is very touchingly included in the story that successfully blends horror and suspense.

For those who love the psychological horror genre and enjoy films with emotional depth, it can be seen as a unique opportunity, but if you don't mind the slow pace and some clichéd horror scenes, your viewing pleasure will increase.

Thank you for being here and reading, take care and goodbye!

I’m not a fan of horror but seems that would change because I’m adding this to my list. Thank you so much for recommending.
