Gran Torino - The production that changed the perception of revenge
It has become inevitable for a person to judge and punish himself in his conscience as a response to the great mistakes and sins committed in the past. This is the case with Walt Kowalski, who appears as a former Korean veteran. In fact, what should be considered strange is not that someone should put himself in the judgment of conscience, but rather that he should not.
In the 2008 film Gran Torino, Walt Kowalski displays a strong characterization, successfully portraying his lost values, his regrets and the difficulties of facing the consequences of the misfortune of ending a life for whatever reason.
Clint Eastwood, who brings the character to life, is at the forefront of the movie with his performance, adding value to the story and the movie. In addition to the story of the film, the character's extraordinary behavior and reactions are definitely worth watching.
I should mention that the key point of Gran Torino is the last wish left to Walt Kowalski by his deceased wife, because although it is not very prominent in the story of the movie, this last wish is actually spread throughout the movie. I won't tell you what the last request is, but if you decide to watch the movie, you have to watch and hear that scene for yourself.
Since the character of Walt Kowalski is at the forefront of the movie, I could devote an entire article to him, but the movie has other implications as well. I liked the way the character reflects the storms he is going through on the outside, and sometimes not. The way he isolates himself from the rest of life, including his own children, after his wife's death, and the way he befriends only a dog may seem strange in the narrative, but when you watch it, it seems quite normal and a reflection of what he is going through.
One of the takeaways of the movie was about the effects of cultural differences on other lives. The film was very successful in terms of the harmony between people who live opposite lives and grow up in different languages and cultures, and the indication that difference can actually be richness.
When approaches are free from prejudice, the idea that those who are seen as guilty may in fact be innocent prevails and the tendency is that everyone deserves a second chance. Throughout the movie, there were a few scenes about second chances that I found beautiful. They not only made the story more beautiful but also made the movie more realistic as they were parts of real life.
I also really liked the last scene of Gran Torino. For the last scene, I would say forget about the revenge scenes you have known so far. In the revenge stories so far, action-packed scenes and sometimes bloody scenes still remain in my memory. In this movie, it makes you think deeply. Killing someone has been seen as solving the problem once and for all, and it has often been treated as such. But keeping the ones you want to take revenge on alive, letting them kill you and punishing them in this way, is thought-provoking as well as thought-provoking.
I recommend watching Gran Torino with its interrogative, thought-provoking and differentiating approach. I can say that especially the human relations and dialogue deficiencies are eliminated and the warm, sincere atmosphere created afterwards draws the audience into the story. This is one of the details that I find important to increase the pleasure of watching.

If I were to analyze the movie in terms of the clash of culture and life, I would say that the innovative and traditionalist characters are more compatible than one might expect. This harmony paves the way for conflict in the beginning and then for a close friendship that leads to death.
I wish everyone who will watch the movie a good time. I hope you enjoy the movie. Have a good weekend; goodbye!
