Svaniti nella notte
In movies where there are family conflicts and they are brought to trial, it is possible to see many intrigues and I find it successful mostly when they successfully weave tension into the story. I tend to watch movies that I find close to the subjects I find successful in advance.
Svaniti nella notte, one of the new productions of 2024, was one of the films I added to the genre I mentioned. I can say that the movie, which failed to meet any of my initial expectations, was below average.
Pietro, who is in the middle of a difficult separation from his wife, takes his children for a weekend and goes to a country house in the middle of silence and nature. Although at the beginning he seems to get what he wants, as the story progresses there are hints that things will not be as they seem and the movie suddenly becomes enjoyable to watch...
...but as the story progresses, the momentum drops and the disjointed scenes cause the audience to become detached from the story. First of all, I would say that the movie is full of intrigues centered on solving problems between spouses. Both spouses feel entitled to everything in order to be the sole owner of the children and the jointly owned house.
They project the evil they have kept inside for years on each other under the name of gaining custody of the children. I would like to say that these moments are quite enjoyable to watch, but they are quite boring because they do not add anything new to the story. In fact, if the story was handled correctly, it could have been a movie that reflects the tension very well.
I can say similar things about the performances of the actors in this movie, whose director and screenwriter are extremely unsuccessful. The only good in the movie is Pietro as the father of the children, even though he has a bad past. Riccardo Scamarcio, who gives life to the character, was remarkable as the best of the bad.
The movie is more about the crazy things that can be done when it comes to the custody of the children. After two people from different cultures unite their lives, the inability to share the children born is reflected from several different angles. I have nothing against the main story but I didn't like the way the tension was handled.
The story has gaps between before and after and the added developments seem to go against the flow of the story. While watching the movie, you have difficulty connecting the events and you get disconnected from the movie. It is one of the worst Italian movies I have ever seen!
As a result, the movie feels like a bad copy of a successful production. For this reason, and for the reasons I have tried to explain above, I do not recommend watching Svaniti nella notte. It is a sub-par production and not worth the time spent.
