Unlike a traditional horror movie, Unfriended is a story about a group of young people on Skype and confronts the audience with the dark side of social media.

The teenagers, who are about to suffer the wrath of the spirit of their girlfriend who committed suicide after an inappropriate video of her was uploaded to the internet, initially think that the person who participated in the video chat against their will is a virus. When the person in question starts messaging them from their dead girlfriend's social media account, the atmosphere becomes tense and fear and tension are projected onto the audience through the characters.

First of all, I must say that the entire movie takes place on a computer screen and successfully reflects the tension to the audience. Unlike the productions that convey the modern fears of the future to the audience through artificial intelligence, the movie blends fear with the modern age through technology.

The main story of the movie is based on the suicide of a high school girl named Laura Bans, who committed suicide a year ago. After someone uploaded an inappropriate video of her to the internet, she became depressed and after the tragic event that resulted in her suicide, her friends, remembering the events on the anniversary of her death, are horrified by the messages they receive from her social media account.

In general terms, the movie questions people's fear of technology and their use of social media. It frequently reminds us of the issues of private lives that are disclosed in the virtual environment, including cybersex, which comes up during a video chat between two lovers. The presence of friends and an unknown person who suddenly enters the conversation turns a simple story into a thriller that is successfully handled.

Even though the story is quite simple and takes place on a computer screen, they have successfully blended horror and suspense through the main story. How scary can a computer screen be? You may ask yourself this question, but after watching the movie, I can say that it is as scary as it can be and it makes the viewer tense.

The fact that the characters are high school teenagers facilitates chaos and panic. During the viewing you can understand the vulnerability of the characters and their reactions to the fear they feel. Although I found the mystery aspect of the movie weak, I liked the way the fear and tension were portrayed.

I recommend Unfriended to everyone who has time to watch the movie, especially those who share everything on the internet. Should virtual life be separated from real life? Absolutely not, but I think we will agree that we should be careful.

Thank you for being here and reading. I hope I have helped you to get a preliminary idea about the movie. I wish everyone who will see the movie a good time. Take care and goodbye!
