National Treasure (2004) Movie Review/Thoughts

So, in a matter of two weeks I showed my son X-Men and then another classic from my childhood, National Treasure with Nicolas Cage. Gosh, watching old classics you haven't seen in years can be really intense and surprisingly emotional.

National Treasure, when I first saw it as a youngster, was unlike any action movie I had seen prior. It had deep mystery about American and basically world history. Ben, played by Nicolas Cage, was a main character truly unlike any other I'd seen in an action movie. I was used to seeing, I don't know, Matt Damon in Bourne Identity perhaps is a good example. Jason Bourne is way different from Ben Gates in National Treasure.

Ben in National Treasure is smart, funny, fearless and prideful all in a wholesome, charming sort of way. It's refreshing.

The action is also very different, it's not too gritty or intense for the most part, but it's great in it's own way and plentiful. Explosions, and stunts and jumps and things like that rather than real gritty fights or people getting hurt in graphic detail.

The story telling is just really great in National Treasure. It's a simple, yet somewhat clever story with nice twists and turns throughout.

I don't mean to offend fans of Indiana Jones, but I almost feel like National Treasure is my generation's Indiana Jones? Maybe that's idiotic I really have barely seen Indiana Jones, LOL. They just seem a bit similar.

My son and I agreed that National Treasure reminded us a lot of the Uncharted video game. We also saw the movie in theaters. Uncharted is a favorite of ours for sure.

Man, I watched National Treasure a ton as a kid. I think it was on ABC Family a lot. So happy to show my boy. I think he liked it, and he learned what the Declaration of Independence was LOL!!!

I've only seen part of this film, not the whole thing. I had the pleasure of meeting Jon Voight at an event some years ago, nice guy. Good write-up, and I really should take the time to see it as it is a darn good film from what I have seen. Thanks for sharing, and keep introducing your son to movies you have enjoyed.
