Source Code (2011) is truly AMAZING! One of my favorites EVER.
Wow I don't even know where to begin. I watched this movie many years ago at a massively different stage of my life. In fact this was one of the last movies I watched at my mom's before everything changed just a few months later.
I always liked this movie but after watching it again I like it even MORE. I thought I understood the film but, now I see just how clever it truly is. I remember definitely liking this movie a ton but I purposely didn't watch it for awhile because I tend to save my favorites for rare occasions. Boy I'm glad I waited this long actually. Can't say I'll wait as long next time though LOL. I might watch this again fairly soon.
I really don't know where to begin. 'Source Code' may have reached a top ten status situation for me. After this ramble I may just do some YouTube dives about the film.
It's clear to me that this movie was well planned out, that's to say the least. This movie basically tackles ideas about faith, science, simulation theory, evolution, life, death, reincarnation, choices having consequences, learning from mistakes and time travel all in one go.
'Source Code' tackled all those topics just masterfully, effortlessly. It's just beyond insane. The layers in this movie is off the charts here.
Colter Stevens is basically the most powerful person ever? But literally in a good way because it seems his power of belief is kind of the only way this 'Source Code' system works to begin with. Honestly Rutledge's intelligence and Colter's unwavering belief came together in such a perfect way when in other circumstances I find it unlikely their personalities would mix excellently. Goodwin of course was absolutely awesome and vital as well and sort of served as the middle ground.
Stevens could what, essentially almost fix the whole world, or I mean I suppose he could try? Big nasty disasters anyway. Or small ones too? Probably? The way that side universes can branch off just suggests what parallel universes I suppose? But these universes thanks to source code do impact each other in one way or another.
So as Stevens sort of goes to crisis to crisis (I guess?) or whatever couldn't he sort of literally be any one of us at any time ever? Or at the very least be around and impact us closely? That idea rings many bells about a ton of belief systems.
Rutledge said that the user of 'Source Code' has to be fairly similar looking and of a similar mind as the person they're sort of 'taking the mind' of. Well over time person to person, as long as they're close enough to the next person this 'technology' may very well touch ANYONE in a long domino effect. Rutledge said that there's a chance Stevenson could be the only one that can use the system although it's never proven if this idea is true. I think either way it wouldn't matter. One is all it takes.
I love the whole idea that Stevens got way more confident and happy every time he returned to the train. This just feels so wholesome. Stevens has a real appreciation for life. My mom often spoke about reincarnation growing up and of course the idea of going to Heaven is obviously known by pretty much everyone. Just to name a few ideas on that matter. At the end when Stevens realizes he can kinda time travel to put it simply and asks Goodwin to tell him he's going to be ok, that was just amazing.
Look this movie is just bonkers in the best way possible. I can't go through every single idea or implication in this movie. This movie can be relatable to anyone and everyone I feel.
'Source Code' is absolutely the perfect name for this movie because it brushes so many types of ideas across religions and sciences and philosophies of all sorts. It does it in an understandable and smooth way. It also does it in seemingly infinite ways. Like seriously infinite.
The vibes of this movie is also just off the charts. The casting was great. It was funny, dramatic, epic, action packed, happy, sad, EVERYTHING.
This movie is an instant favorite all over again in a bigger better way than ever before. This one blew my mind more than even 'Inception'. I just can't say enough about this one.
