1923 Season 2 - A satisfying finale or a missed opportunity? Opinion with spoilers

Yesterday, the final episode of the second season of 1923 premiered, which apparently concludes the series, and there are several things to say, so I'm coming with a lot of spoilers. I really liked this season, I won't lie that I didn't enjoy it, but they once again left Spencer's arrival and his encounter with Alexandra for the end. One of the great attractions of the series was this combination of a love story with the last vestiges of what cowboy life is in the United States.

If you've seen the series, you'll remember that Spencer and Alexandra were separated at the end of the first season on their way to America. Spencer has the duty to heed his family's call to fight a new enemy, Donald Whitfield, who threatens to take them away, I'll talk about this character later. In the first season, time elapses during part of that journey, and the second season also, but now separately and as each of these characters suffers their own hardships.

Frankly, I thought they wouldn't take so much of the series' time for this journey, and give what for me was an abrupt ending in a single episode, where Spencer did what he had to do in almost the blink of an eye. I understand they want to make it clear that he's a great warrior, an excellent marksman, and ruthless when he needs to be, but perhaps a bit more struggle and conflict on his part would have been better, at least for two episodes and not at the end of the last episode, even though it lasted 1 hour and 52 minutes, clearly the length of two episodes, which I thought was a wise decision.

Regarding the characters' stories, I'll start with Alexandra's, that woman suffered so much for love, endured everything, and refused to have surgery? I understand how difficult it will be to live independently without feet or hands, but she endured everything to be with Spencer, I thought she would be willing to endure more to fulfill the dream they both had of growing old together, and also to see their son grow up, which was perhaps the most important thing, she herself witnessed that the child is a fighter, he didn't die prematurely. I had grown fond of this character, I regret that ending for her.

The characters of Jacob and Cara Dutton were the best of the series, especially Cara's. Helen Mirren did a great job, that tough woman who has to make quick decisions, face dangers, and survive. Seeing her take up a weapon whenever necessary to defend her family, tell the truths when no one else wanted to, set boundaries at home, remind her husband of his duties to her and the family, all was very well performed by her. Harrison Ford was also excellent, with that role of an 80-year-old man enduring and fighting, he was marvelous.

Returning to the character of Donald Whitfield, played by Timothy Dalton, he seemed like a waste to me. Not taking advantage of this actor's talents to be a better villain was disappointing. Spending two seasons of the series showing us grotesque scenes with women was a waste, with a couple of them it was already clear that the man was a monster. It seems that whoever wrote the character sought to show that his vices were what took their toll, not commanding the attack on the Duttons more closely, being in his filth, kept him off guard for Spencer's hypothetical arrival, definitely a waste.

Not to mention the character of Aminah Nieves, Teonna Rainwater, she also did wonderfully, this was the character that hooked me on the series, the scenes of the first season at the nuns' school seemed raw to me, willing to show the reality of the era for Native Americans. I know the matter was about her escape from justice, but again, a whole season traveling. It would have been better to dedicate time to her establishment in Montana, the conflict over the Yellowstone lands, her as the precursor of that struggle that her descendant Thomas Rainwater continues in the Yellowstone series.

In general, I enjoyed the series although I would have liked a different ending for these characters. The Wild West-style action is always attractive to me, I also liked seeing how the modern era and comforts were leaving behind that country life, and the nostalgia it brought for the characters who love living off the land. The series' photography was, as always, spectacular, the period set design was excellent, all the technical details were very good, it's a series I would definitely recommend watching.

1923 temporada 2 - ¿Un final satisfactorio o una oportunidad perdida? Opinión con Spoilers

El dia de ayer se estrenó el último episodio de la segunda temporada de 1923, con el que al parecer termina la serie, y hay varias cosas que decir, así que vengo con varios spoiler. Me gusto mucho esta temporada, no voy a mentir que no la disfrute, pero volvieron a dejar para el final la llegada de Spencer y su encuentro con Alexandra. Uno de los grandes atractivos de la serie fue esta combinación de historia de amor, con los últimos vestigios de lo que es la vida del vaquero en los Estados unidos.

Si han visto la serie recordarán que Spencer y Alexandra quedaron separados al final de la primera Temporada de camino a América. Spencer tiene el deber de atender el llamado de su familia para luchar contra un nuevo enemigo, Donald Whitfield que amenaza con quitárselas, ya hablaré sobre este personaje. En la primera temporada el tiempo transcurre en parte de ese viaje, y la segunda temporada también pero ahora por separado y como cada uno de estos personajes sufre sus propias penurias.

Francamente pensé que no tomarían tanto tiempo de la serie para este viaje, y darle lo que para mi fue un cierre brusco en un solo episodio, donde Spencer hizo lo que tenía que hacer en casi un abrir y cerrar de ojos. Entiendo que quieren dejar claro que es un gran guerrero, un excelente tirador y despiadado cuando hay que serlo, pero quizás un poco mas de lucha y conflicto de su parte hubiera sido mejor, por lo menos durante dos capitulos y no al final del último episodio, aunque este duro 1 hora 52 minutos, claramente el tiempo de dos episodios, lo que me pareció una decisión acertada.

En cuanto a la historia de los personaje, comienzo por el de Alexandra, esa mujer sufrió tanto por amor, soporto de todo y ¿se negó a no ser operada? Entiendo lo difícil que será vivir de manera independiente sin pies ni manos, pero ella soportó de todo por llegar con Spencer, pense que estaria dispuesta a soportar mas para cumplir con el sueño que ambos tenían de envejecer juntos, además, de ver a su hijo crecer que quizas era lo mas importante, ella misma presenció que el niño es un luchador, no murió al ser prematuro. Me había encariñado con este personaje, lamento que le diera ese final.

Los personajes de Jacob y Cara Dutton fueron de lo mejor de la serie, especialmente el de Cara, Hellen Mirren hizo un gran trabajo, esa mujer dura que debe tomar las decisiones rápidas, enfrentar los peligros y sobrevivir. Verla tomar un arma cada vez que fue necesario para defender a su familia, decir las verdades cuando nadie mas queria, poner los límites en el hogar, recordar a su esposo sus deberes para con ella y la familia, todo fue muy bien desempeñado por ella. Harrison Ford también estuvo excelente, con ese papel de hombre de 80 años soportando y luchando estuvo maravilloso.

Volviendo a el personaje de Donald Whitfield, interpretado por Timothy Dalton, me pareció un desperdicio. No aprovechar los dotes de este actor para ser un mejor villano fue decepcionante. Gastar dos temporadas de la serie donde se nos muestran escenas grotescas con mujeres fue un desperdicio, con un par de ellas ya estaba claro que el hombre era un monstruo. Parece que quien escribió el personaje busco mostrar que sus vicios fueron los que le pasaron factura, el no comandar mas de cerca el ataque a los Dutton, por estar en sus cochinadas, le mantuvo con la guardia baja para la hipotética llegada de Spencer, definitivamente que desperdicio.

Ni hablar del personaje de Aminah Nieves, Teonna Rainwater, ella también lo hizo de maravilla, este fue el personaje que me engancho a la serie, las escenas de la primera temporada en la escuela de monjas me parecieron crudas, dispuestas a mostrar la realidad de la época de los indios americanos. Se que el asunto se trataba de su escape de la justicia, pero de nuevo, toda una temporada viajando. Hubiera sido mejor dedicar tiempo a su establecimiento en Montana, el conflicto por las tierras de Yellowstone, ella como la precursora de esa lucha que continúa su descendiente Thomas Rainwater en la serie Yellowstone.

En general disfrute la serie aunque me hubiera gustado un cierre distinto para estos personajes. La acción al estilo lejano oeste siempre es atractiva para mi, tambien me gusto ver como la era moderna y las comodidades iban dejando atrás esa vida de campo, y la nostalgia que trajo sobre los personajes que aman vivir de la tierra. La fotografía de la serie fue como siempre espectacular, la escenografía de la época estuvo excelente, todos los detalles técnicos fueron muy buenos, es una serie que recomendaría ver sin dudas.
