320 Million wasted - The Electric State ⚡🤖 when CGI outshines narrative

When I start Netflix, the first thing I see is the trend or what's most viewed in my country. In the first place is The Electric State. I check it out to see the details, and I'm pleasantly surprised by its cast and the story described in the platform's review. I watch the trailer and decide it's a movie we should watch as a family. I gather my children and wife, and we prepare to watch it with great expectation, but in the end, everything changed.

320 Millones desperdiciados-The Electric State: Cuando el CGI Supera a la Narrativa 🤖⚡

Al iniciar Netflix lo primero que veo es la tendencia o lo más visto en mi país. En primer lugar de encuentra The Electric State, la reviso para ver los detalles y me sorprende gratamente su elenco y la historia que describe la reseña de la plataforma, veo el trailer y decido que es una película que debemos ver en familia, reúno a mis hijos y esposa y nos disponemos a verla con gran expectativa, pero al final todo cambio.

The movie is a strange combination of future and past. It's the year 1994, and humanity uses robots left and right. All the activities that humans don't want to do are done by robots, but the robots rebel and start a protest, which leads to a war for their freedom. Humans, on the verge of losing, manage to create a neural link to operate robots they call drones, and thus finally fight on equal terms, allowing them to win the war.

La película es una combinación rara de futuro con pasado, es el año 1994 y la humanidad utiliza robots a diestra y siniestra, todas las actividades que el humano no quiere hacer, las hace un robot, pero los robots se revelan e inician una protesta lo que deriva en una guerra por su libertad. Los humanos a punto de perder, logran crear un enlace neuronal para operar robots que llaman drones y así finalmente poder pelear de igual a igual, lo que les permite ganar la guerra.

The robots are forced to sign a peace treaty and are sent to an isolated zone where they must remain without contact with humans. However, now humans do everything through drones, and with the neural link, they divide their brains: one part operates the drone, and the other lives in a virtual reality where they fulfill their dreams. The character of Millie refuses to live this way. She lost her family in an accident, has become rebellious, and lives in foster homes.

Los robot son obligados a firmar un tratado de paz y son enviados a una zona aislada donde deben permanecer sin contacto con los humanos, sin embargo, ahora los humanos todo lo hacen a través de los drones y con el enlace neuronal dividen su cerebro, una parte opera el dron y otra vive en una realidad virtual, en la que cumplen sus sueños. El personaje de Mili se niega a vivir de esta forma, ella perdió a su familia en un accidente, se ha vuelto rebelde y vive en hogares de familias sustitutas.

One day, a robot from her childhood contacts her. After the initial shock due to the prohibition of contact with robots, it tells her that it's operated by the consciousness of her supposedly dead brother. She decides to go in search of him and ends up on a crusade alongside Chris Pratt, fighting against Ethan Skate (Stanley Tucci) and Marshall (Giancarlo Esposito), who try to stop her.

Un día un robot de un personaje de su infancia la contacta. Tras pasar el susto debido a las prohibición de contacto con robots, este le indica que es operado por la conciencia de su hermano supuestamente muerto. Ella decide ir en su búsqueda y termina en una cruzada junto a Cris Pratt, luchando contra Ethan Skate (Stanley Tucci) y Marshall (Giancarlo Esposito) quienes intentan impedirlo.

After all these events, I asked myself, 'What did we just watch?' Throughout the movie, I praised the CGI, but I didn't understand what was happening with the dialogues. They were very basic, the answers very predictable, everything short and simple. Honestly, they disappointed me. I tried to find an explanation for what was happening, but the poor quality of the dialogues became more evident when Millie, with her character of Michelle, had a great performance, but what she said didn't match her action.

Tras todos estos acontecimientos me hice la pregunta ¿Que acabamos de ver? Durante toda la película elogiaba el CGI, pero no entendía que pasaba con los diálogos, eran muy básicos, las respuestas muy predecibles, todo corto y sencillo, la verdad me decepcionaban. Trataba de encontrar una explicación a lo que pasaba, pero lo pobre de los diálogos se hacía más evidente cuando Millie con su personaje de Michelle, tenía un gran performance, pero lo que decía no acompañaba su acción.

Not to mention the humor, the jokes were terrible. The humorous part was in charge of Chris Pratt and his robot companion Herman. Chris seems to be playing Star-Lord again, but the robot Herman was a likeable character, I did like him. The movie is full of clichés, something very similar we saw in Ready Player One, a world with the need to disconnect, with a villain who tries to prevent it.

Ni hablar del humor, los chistes eran pésimos, la parte humorística estaba a cargo de Chris Pratt y su robot acompañante Herman. Chris parece que estuviera representado otra vez a Star-lord, pero el robot Herman si fue un personaje simpático, ese si me gustó. La película está llena de clichés, algo muy parecido vimos en Ready Player One, un mundo con la necesidad de desconectarse, con un villano que intenta impedirlo.

I don't know if anyone else has seen it and agrees with me, but I think the result was terrible for a $320 million movie. It's incredible that just a couple of days ago I was praising the narrative of the movie Flow and its deficient animation with only a $4 million budget, and The Electric State, with such a high budget, delivers impressive animation but the worst narrative.

No sé si alguno ya la ha visto y opine igual que yo, pero creo que el resultado fue pésimo para ser una película de 320 millones de dólares. Que increíble que apenas un par de días elogiaba la narrativa de la película Flow y su deficiente animación con solo 4 millones de presupuesto, y The Electric State con tan alto presupuesto nos entrega una animación impresionante pero la peor narrativa.
