Greetings and salutations Hivers. Today I thought we'd do another You Should Laugh More post.

Research has shown that laughter is good for us. It has all kinds of health benefits. Despite most of us knowing this, none of us laugh enough. Yeah, I know, being an adult is tough, and furthermore there is a lot of grim stuff happening in the world. These things may be true, but that just is all the more reason for trying to get a little laughter into our lives.

This week we're going to go with a series of skits from SNL that I had completely forgotten about until one randomly appeared in the suggested videos on the YouTube account I use for doing these You Should Laugh More posts. The fact that I had forgotten about it doesn't mean it's bad. On the contrary, these are all very funny skits.

The lead of these skits is Chris Kattan, playing a southern lawyer who always speaks in complete gibberish. The joke is that even though no one can understand him, he somehow always is persuasive, much to the annoyance of at least one other character in the skit. As far as I can tell, it's mainly mocking Matlock and all the southern gentlemen lawyer shows that appeared in the 90s where the lawyer would speak a very folksy southern accent full of colloquialisms and through the power of folksy speech would always win.

That's probably not a good lead in. You just have to see it to understand. So in the interest of that, let's jump in with this first clip.

Chris Kattan never really did anything beyond SNL. Most of his SNL characters were hyperactive and annoying, making him a second-rate Jim Carrey, and he was never able to support anything longer than a 10 minute skit. An injury while on SNL (breaking his neck from a skit gone wrong) and a resulting addiction to painkillers certainly didn't help his career.

But as you can see, he could be very funny in small chunks. He did an amazing job memorizing the gibberish speech, performing it, and not cracking up at the sheer stupidity of it.

In other skits in this Southern Lawyer series, he moved out of the courtroom and was thrust into different situations. He also found himself as a substutute sometimes.

He also somehow ended up as a drill sergent. The results are as you might expect with no one being able to understand him.

This was one of the funnier characters he played. It's too bad some of his more annoying actions made him a lot of enemies and he lost time from his neck injury, because he did have talent. Oh well. At least we can enjoy these three clips above!

So what do you think? Did it make any of them make you laugh laugh or were they just stupid? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

This was some of his best work. I think he was on celebrity big brother a little bit ago and he was still kind of annoying.
