Kara Sevda: A movie binging story time

I may not be much of a serial binger anymore, but if you’ve known me from the University days, you know that movies was my middle man. However, people who also know me from the good ol' primary school days know me as someone different – GTA Lord. I’ve spent many nights awake playing games and watching movies, but for this post, I'll be talking about just the movies.

Oh btw, if you recognize this title in some way, I will be impressed. I don’t think anyone will recognize this film because it doesn’t really fall into the typical category of movies we (GenZ) watch, because of the country that made it. For even me, the situation that got me to watch it was rather odd. My sisters would talk about it all the time, so much that I had to just throw in the towel and watch it myself. Out of the many movies I’ve binge watched, I chose this movie for the reason that I gave it the most dedication and attention.

I had been disturbing my parents to allow me visit my grandma at Bolga, and for the longest time, the answer had always been NO. Until after writing WASSCE and graduating from High School, when I would have a lot of free time on my hands to sit, wait for my results, and prepare for University. I travelled to Bolga for a few months using that time.

Before I left, I copied this show (Kara Sevda) to keep myself entertained in case the place would be too boring for me, and lordddd. It is a Turkish show and the title Kara Sevda means Endless Love. If you know anything about those, they have some of the longest episodes in TV series history! Each episode was 2hours 30 minutes long and there were about 72 episodes or so. If you’re going to spend your 24 hours a day doing absolutely nothing else but binging the show, it would’ve taken you about 8 days. Ladies and gentlemen, I finished that show in 2 weeks.💀

This was me during that period

Aside praying, bathing, eating and maybe small errands on some days, I spent every passing minute of every passing day on that show. I’m not sure how exactly I got hooked onto the show, but I think it was because the show’s makers found some cheat code to make the suspense and cliffhangers at every point of the movie so intense that you can’t NOT continue. I was angry through most of the movie because a certain character always pissed me off with the immaturity in her decisions, falling in love with her family’s arch nemesis and selling them out many times to that bastard cos she claimed she loved him so much. I told my friends to keep their laptops far from them because they’ll likely break their screens out of anger for Zeynep and Tarik’s utter stupidity and childishness. Let me leave it here before I end up telling you about the entire movie.

The main characters of the show

Even though this was a period for me to connect with my grandma and distant relatives, I spent almost all of it binging this show. Fortunately, the house was in tune on me with this, in love with the show just as much as I am. So, whiles everyone went out to handle their business, I would stay in and binge, then catch them up on what they missed when they come back so we all continue from where I am again. It was an interesting time.

Aside Kara Sevda, other binges worth remembering are the night when I wrote this post about a certain plot twist reveal in Bleach, My House of The Dragon Binge (great show for those who haven’t seen it yet). Still, I don’t recall ever binging anything as intensely as Kara Sevda, not even anime or GTA. Maybe it is because I started watching anime at a period in my life where I didn’t have as much as I did when I binged Kara Sevda. Or maybe it was just that interesting. What do you think?

Of course! Typical you!🤣🤣 I’m not surprised you watched such a movie. But wait!
8 days?!!!!!!!
Yo, I’m screaminggggg💀💀
72 episodes times 2.5 hours… divided by 24 hours….ideally, if you weren’t doing anything, and you only watched the movie each day without sleeping or eating or anything, you would have finished it in 7.5 days but you said you were praying, sleeping and eating.. and some errands…… and you still finished it in 8 days? stay away from you zombieeee🤣🤣🤣

I said it took me 2 weeks, Danny. You’re so eager to tag me as crazy😂😂😂

Yes, I want you to be the werey🤣

Man, 72 episodes is a lot of content to digest lol. Some of these movie producers have perfected the art of creating suspense and cliffhangers that will have you clicking on the next episode just after the previous episode ends!

I find myself doing this so often. If I have some pressing dealings, I avoid watching series to save myself from this😅
