If you mention Howard the Duck to anyone they will surely laugh and say What is this nonsense or How did this movie even get made But for me this movie is something light and entertaining and offers a completely different experience Yes we dont have to take it as a great movie but it is an enjoyable movie if you look at it from a purely entertainment perspective.
The story begins with Howard a duck who came from another planet and suddenly gets dragged to Earth due to a failed scientific experiment The idea itself is crazy but thats the fun of the movie that it doesnt take itself too seriously It tries to present a mix of comedy and science fiction with a bit of action and in the middle of all of this you find yourself enjoying yourself without realizing it.
The thing I like most about the movie is the character of Howard himself The duck has sarcastic reactions and presents comedy in a spontaneous way which is very innovative for a movie from the eighties Although people complained a lot about the effects or the character design if you look at the time the movie was made you will find that they did what they could and that is part of its charm.
Other than that the movie is full of cute moments and side characters that add a nice atmosphere to the events Howards relationship with Beverly played by Lea Thompson was full of entertaining scenes and strange situations but very enjoyable The movie makes you feel like you are watching something from the comics but with the spirit of the eighties in all its details.
Howard the Duck is not a great movie or one that will win awards but it is a movie that will give you laughs and fifty minutes of strange fun If you watch it with an open mind without trying to judge it by the standards of big movies you will find it light cute and full of different energy It is an enjoyable movie nothing more and that in itself is a beautiful thing.
I haven't seen this one but from looking at the images I can see why many people would not like it.
