RE: Trump Tariffs Hurting Hollywood And Helping Canada
You are viewing a single comment's thread:
Canadian dollar as impetus for Hollywood studios to shoot in Canada isn't anything new. It is quite normal for films set in New York City to be shot in Toronto, just as it was quite even for science fiction shows set on number of different planets to be produced in and around Vancouver.
While tariffs and macroeconomics would definitely hurt studios whose many blockbusters have been kept afloat by Chinese market, the main problem for Hollywood are changes within the culture or technology. Why would anyone spend half of a day commuting to nearest cineplex and pay large potion of his monthly salary to watch two hours of half of unimaginative, poorly produced remake or sequel when he can enjoy much better content at home via streaming?
All those Hollywood celebs being paid millions of dollars to support certain wars and certain political campaigns makes perfect sense now when it is very unlikely that anyone of them could expect to earn the same amounts of money by actually acting in certain film.

That is all true. Of course, the break in the distribution monopoly was the first arrow. The second is content creators getting more tools, especially tied to AI.
