The Penguin (Review ) [ESP-ENG] by edwardstobia

Esta es sin dudas una serie magistral y hasta ahora de las mejores que he visto en este año. En mis últimas reseñas no he tenido el privilegio de presentar una producción como esta y es que, si me preguntan a mí, respondería rápidamente que entra en la cima del top de las mejores del género de superhéroes o relacionado con el mundo de los cómics. Esta no es la historia que conocemos de Oswald Cobblepot o el Pingüino aun así cuenta una historia bastante sólida que sigue con igual o superior calidad visual y narrativa que las mismas películas de Batman.

This is undoubtedly a masterful series and so far one of the best I've seen this year. In my last reviews I have not had the privilege of presenting a production like this and, if you ask me, I would quickly answer that it enters the top of the top of the best of the superhero genre or related to the world of comics. This is not the story we know of Oswald Cobblepot or the Penguin even so it tells a pretty solid story that follows with equal or superior visual and narrative quality than the Batman movies themselves.

Tenía mucho rato que no me disfrutaba una serie como me he disfrutado esta. A lo mejor porque soy fanático de este tipo de series o también puede que sea por ser uno de los villanos icónico del universo de Batman el cual es mi superhéroe favorito. Me tardé un poco en verla pues la verdad no quería esperar el estreno de un nuevo capítulo cada semana. Y sí, ha pasado un largo tiempo desde su último capítulo aun así dejé fluir la serie hasta que ya estuvieran los 8 capítulos en HBO.

It's been a long time since I enjoyed a series as much as I enjoyed this one. Maybe because I'm a fan of this kind of series or maybe it's because it's one of the iconic villains of the Batman universe, which is my favorite superhero. It took me a while to watch it because I really didn't want to wait for the premiere of a new chapter every week. And yes, it's been a long time since the last episode but I still let the series flow until all 8 episodes were on HBO.

En esta serie explora al pingüino desde otros ángulos llevándonos de la mano a su ascenso al poder en el inframundo criminal de Ciudad Gotham brindándonos una perspectiva más oscura sobre sus orígenes, motivaciones y ese magistral carácter manipulador, mentiroso, sádico, egoísta, psicópata, asesino, narcisista y pare de contar.

This series explores the penguin from other angles, taking us by the hand to his rise to power in the criminal underworld of Gotham City, giving us a darker perspective on his origins, motivations and his masterful manipulative, lying, sadistic, selfish, psychopathic, murderous, narcissistic character, and so on.

No cabe duda que esta producción de alta calidad se destacó por una cinematografía extraordinaria y un guion que indaga temas como la ambición y la traición dentro de un entorno oscuro y caótico como lo es Gotham. La serie promete, y vaya que sí. El combinar esos temas con acción y como lo dije al principio, con una narración intensa profundizando el cómo Cobblepot se convierte en uno de los principales mafiosos de Gotham es sin duda algo increíble para los amantes del comic o aquellos que sigue el mundo de Dc. Es una mezcla entre El padrino, Breaking Bad, Scarface, y claro obviamente, con un gran toque de Batman.

There is no doubt that this high quality production stood out for its extraordinary cinematography and a script that explores themes such as ambition and betrayal within the dark and chaotic environment of Gotham. The series has promise, and indeed it does. Combining those themes with action and as I said at the beginning, with an intense narration deepening how Cobblepot becomes one of the main mobsters of Gotham is undoubtedly something incredible for comic book lovers or those who follow the world of DC. It's a mix between The Godfather, Breaking Bad, Scarface, and of course obviously, with a great touch of Batman.

Hablemos un poco de las actuaciones que a mí parecer fueron gloriosas y es que entre los actores tenemos a Colin Farrell como el Pingüino y Cristin Milioti como Sofía Falcone Gigante ambos se sumergen en sus papeles logrando un trabajo increíble tanto que sentía lo mismo que ellos. La actuación de Cristin Milioti fue tan impresionante que por momentos se roba la mitad o más del protagonismo en esta serie. Ambos estuvieron increíblemente bien sin mencionar el gran trabajo de los personajes secundarios que estuvieron a la altura del requerimiento. Es una serie realmente impresionante en cuanto lo narrativo y lo actoral acercándonos tanto a los personajes que te hace comprender claramente el surgimiento y las motivaciones de estos villanos.

Let's talk a little bit about the performances that in my opinion were glorious and among the actors we have Colin Farrell as the Penguin and Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone Gigante both immersed themselves in their roles achieving an incredible job so much so that I felt the same as them. Cristin Milioti's performance was so impressive that at times she steals half or more of the lead in this series. They were both amazingly good not to mention the great work of the supporting characters who lived up to the requirement. It's a really impressive series in terms of storytelling and acting bringing us so close to the characters that it makes you clearly understand the rise and motivations of these villains.

El final de la primera temporada me dejó sin aliento, dio un giro tan inesperado que aún sufro por las noches. Cada capítulo me dejaba con ansias de otro y eso como sabemos es algo para los aficionados un gran punto para resaltar esta serie como la mejor del 2024. Y ahora que me leo veo que son muy rara las veces que recomiendo una serie. Acá Si eres fan de DC y concretamente de Batman seguramente te gustará, si no, a cualquiera que le guste el suspenso, el drama policiaco o las tramas de mafias estoy seguro de que le podrá también fascinar. Y después de todo esto hay una sola pregunta que me hago, ¿Cuándo estará lista la segunda temporada?

The end of the first season left me breathless, it took such an unexpected turn that I still suffer through the nights. Each chapter left me craving for another and that as we know is something for fans a great point to highlight this series as the best of 2024. And now that I read myself I see that it is very rare times that I recommend a series. Here If you are a fan of DC and specifically Batman you will surely like it, if not, anyone who likes suspense, crime drama or mafia plots I'm sure you might also be fascinated by it. And after all this there is only one question I ask myself, when will the second season be ready?

No sé si muchos de ustedes la han visto, pero por si acaso, mi intención no es hacerle algún tipo de espóiler. Esta es solo mi humilde opinión. Los invito a que disfruten de esta super serie relacionada con el mundo DC.
