Volví a ser una adolescente obsesionada con Katniss y Peeta cuando me enteré de que esta película saldría, la había estado esperando con ansias y cuando por fin llegó a los cines tuve que ir rápido, no quería ningún spoiler ni conocer nada de la historia (por eso no quise leer el libro antes de ver la película) quería sentarme en esa sala y disfrutar cada momento, tenía la expectativa de que no me iba a decepcionar… Y no lo hizo.

Fue excepcional, una de las mejores películas que vi este año. Mantiene la esencia de la historia original de Los Juegos del Hambre, pero al mismo tiempo le agrega muchos detalles significativos que necesitábamos y no lo sabíamos. Suzanne Collins sabe como sorprendernos y tocar las fibras sensibles de nuestro organismo, y en esta película de alrededor dos horas y media vas a experimentar una montaña rusa de emociones, así que permíteme compartir mi opinión (sin muchos spoilers) y espero que lo disfrutes✨

I went back to being a teenager obsessed with Katniss and Peeta when I found out that this movie was coming out, I had been looking forward to it and when it finally hit theaters I had to go fast, I didn't want any spoilers or to know anything about the story (that's why I didn't want to read the book before watching the movie) I wanted to sit in that room and enjoy every moment, I had the expectation that it wouldn't disappoint me... And it didn't.

It was exceptional, one of the best movies I saw this year. It maintains the essence of the original story of The Hunger Games, but at the same time adds many significant details that we needed and didn't know. Suzanne Collins knows how to surprise us and touch the sensitive fibers of our organism, and in this film of around two and a half hours you're going to experience a roller coaster of emotions, so allow me to share my opinion (without many spoilers) and I hope you enjoy it✨

Balada de pájaros cantores y serpientes, es la esperada precuela de Los Juegos del hambre, 64 años antes de todo lo ocurrido en la historia principal, presentando apenas la décima edición de estos juegos macabros. Panem se encuentra en una etapa postguerra, completamente diferente a como la conocíamos; la población del Capitolio no es excéntrica, y la pobreza y hambruna se encuentra incluso en la capital. Ahora, imagina, si así es en la ciudad principal, ¿en qué condiciones están los distritos?

La gente tiene muchas preocupaciones para estar interesados en 24 niños asesinándose mutuamente, ya no es un espectáculo, lo que genera desagrado en los organizadores del evento y los lleva a crear nuevas estrategias para hacer el show más… entretenido. Así es como conocemos a Coriolanus Snow, ¿el malvado Presidente Snow que odiamos a muerte?, sí, ese mismo, solo que aquí es un joven de 18 años, a poco tiempo de graduarse y un montón de deudas, quien queda envuelto en la renovación de los juegos como el mentor de Lucy Gray, la tributo femenina del Distrito 12. El mentor del tributo ganador se llevará un gran premio monetario, muy necesario en la familia Snow, así que Corio debe hacer todo lo posible para que Lucy gane, en esta versión más cruel (increíble, pero cierto) de los temibles Juegos del Hambre.

Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, is the long-awaited prequel to The Hunger Games, 64 years before everything that happened in the main story, presenting only the tenth edition of these macabre games. Panem is in a post-war stage, completely different from how we knew it; the population of the Capitol is not eccentric, and poverty and famine are found even in the capital. Now, imagine, if that's the case in the main city, what condition are the districts?

People have too many worries to be interested in 24 children murdering each other, it's no longer a spectacle, which generates displeasure in the organizers of the event and leads them to create new strategies to make the show more... entertaining. This is how we meet Coriolanus Snow, the evil President Snow who we hate to death? Yes, the same one, only here he is an 18-year-old young man, about to graduate and with a lot of debt, who gets involved in the renewal of the games as a mentor to Lucy Gray, the female tribute of District 12. The mentor of the winning tribute will win a large monetary prize, much needed in the Snow family, so Corio must do everything possible to make Lucy win, in this cruelest version (unbelievable, but true) of the fearsome Hunger Games.

Aunque la historia se centra en la evolución del personaje de Snow, realmente encontramos bastantes detalles para crearnos una idea de cuál fue el inicio de todo. Vemos como la guerra destruyó el espíritu de las personas, y les dejó esa semilla de odio para continuar castigando a la población durante las próximas décadas. Los Juegos del Hambre no eran para nada lo que conocíamos, trataban a los tributos como animales, no les daban comida, no los vestían o los preparaban como con Katniss y Peeta, y fue impactante conocer eso; la "arena" tan bien producida y organizada, era solo un domo sin lugar para esconderse o recursos necesarios para la supervivencia, arrojaban a los niños ahí para ver como morían. Obviamente, este formato no era entretenido para la mayoría.

Y por esta razón, gracias a las ideas del joven estudiante Snow, los juegos van evolucionando hasta lo que ya conocíamos, la base de la historia original: apostar por tu tributo favorito y enviarles regalos, presentar a cada joven para enamorar a la población del Capitolio, y la elección aleatoria de los tributos, dado que la corrupción ya era muy grande y podías "comprar" a la persona que iría a los juegos.

Although the story focuses on the evolution of Snow's character, we really find enough details to create an idea of what the beginning of everything was. We see how the war destroyed the spirit of the people, and left them with that seed of hatred to continue punishing the population for the next decades. The Hunger Games were not at all what we knew, they treated the tributes like animals, they didn't give them food, they didn't dress them or prepare them like with Katniss and Peeta, and it was shocking to know that; the "sand" so well produced and organized was just a dome with no place to hide or resources necessary for survival, they threw the children in there to watch them die. Obviously, this format was not entertaining for most.

And for this reason, thanks to the ideas of the young student Snow, the games evolve to what we already knew, the basis of the original story: betting on your favorite tribute and sending them gifts, introducing each young person to make the population of the Capitol fall in love, and the random choice of tributes, since the corruption was already very great and you could "buy" the person who would go to the games.

Sabemos que las personas de los distritos más bajos nunca han estado de acuerdo con los juegos, pero veíamos como el Capitolio adoraban cada temporada e incluso los distritos más altos se preparaban orgullosos para participar, por eso mismo, una de las cosas que más llamó mi atención fue ver tanto disgusto acerca de los juegos. La humanidad aún tenía un toque de nobleza y moralidad, y no estaban completamente seguros sobre este evento, sentía rechazo e incluso lo criticaban, y aunque claramente esto no perduró, y las nuevas generaciones se criaron con la convicción de que los juegos del hambre estaban bien, se comenzó a deshumanizar a los tributos creando la idea de que estaban hechos para entretener, y toda esa miseria, me gustó saber que no siempre todos estuvieron de acuerdo con lo que sucedía.

We know that people in the lower districts have never agreed with the games, but we saw how the Capitol adored every season and even the highest districts proudly prepared to participate, so one of the things that caught my attention the most was seeing so much disgust about the games. Humanity still had a touch of nobility and morality, and they were not completely sure about this event, they felt rejection and even criticized it, and although clearly this did not last, and the new generations were raised with the conviction that the hunger games were fine, they began to dehumanize the tributes creating the idea that they were made to entertain, and all that misery, I was pleased to know that not everyone always agreed with what was happening at the beginning.

Aunque la trama de los Juegos del Hambre nos entretiene a todos, la verdad es que es solo una pequeña parte de la película. La verdadera base de todo es Coriolanus Snow✨ Quién es, y qué lo llevó a ser el cruel presidente de Panem. Recuerdo cuando leí los libros por primera vez y luego vi las películas, recuerdo cuánto odié a Snow y cuánto disfruté su final… Ahora, esa adolescente mira feo a mi yo adulta, porque ya no lo odio, e incluso lo comprendo. Collins nos regaló un personaje muy gris, no es malo, pero tampoco bueno, es totalmente ambicioso e inteligente, y aunque tenía un poco de nobleza en su corazón, también poseía una fuerte tendencia a hacer lo que consideraba correcto, especialmente a su propio beneficio. La vida sabe como golpearnos, y las distintas experiencias que atravesó Corio lo convirtieron en ese presidente icónico.

Al principio estaba un poco renuente, tipo: "yo no quiero conocer nada de este hombre", pero soy una fan obsesionada, así que igual tenía que ver la película😂 Y realmente me encantó saber quién fue Snow, comprender sus pensamientos y comportamientos, es esa complejidad lo que nos hace humanos. Solo es un hombre que tuvo que luchar demasiado para alcanzar su meta y ayudar a su familia, en el camino le rompieron el corazón y cometió múltiples errores, ¿a todos nos pasa, no? Solo que cada quien reacciona de manera distinta, y él escogió el camino del mal y la venganza.

Además, hay que resaltar la increíble actuación de Tom Blyth✨ Quedé encantada con su trabajo, él entendió lo que tenía que hacer y se lució con una actuación impecable.

Although the plot of the Hunger Games entertains us all, the truth is that it is only a small part of the movie. The real basis of it all is Coriolanus Snow✨ who he is, and what led him to be the cruel president of Panem. I remember when I read the books for the first time and then saw the movies, I remember how much I hated Snow and how much I enjoyed his ending... Now, that teenager self look ugly at my adult self, because I don't hate him anymore, and I even understand him. Collins gave us a very grey character, he's not bad, but he's not good either, he's totally ambitious and intelligent, and although he had a bit of nobility in his heart, he also possessed a strong tendency to do what he thought was right, especially for his own benefit. Life knows how to hit us, and the different experiences Corio went through made him that iconic president.

At first I was a little reluctant, like, "I don't want to know anything about this guy," but I'm an obsessed fan, so I still had to see the movie😂 And I really loved finding out who Snow was, understanding his thoughts and behaviors, it's that complexity that makes us human. He's just a man who had to fight too hard to achieve his goal and help his family, along the way his heart was broken and he made multiple mistakes, it happens to all of us, right? Only everyone reacts differently, and he chose the path of evil and revenge.

Also, we must highlight the incredible performance of Tom Blyth✨ I was delighted with his work, he understood what he had to do and he showed off with an impeccable performance.

Aunque Snow fue mi personaje favorito y es el centro de la historia, hay varios personajes claves que están involucrados en su desarrollo. Lucy Gray, interpretada por Rachel Zegler, es la tributo del Distrito 12 que Snow debe guiar. Es un personaje que individualmente le faltó desarrollo, no logras empatizar con ella, pero tampoco me cae mal, porque sus escenas son importantes para la trama. Gracias a su carisma y deseo de libertad, logra ganarse el corazón del protagonista, y juntos forman un gran equipo durante el proceso de los juegos. Le enseñó a Snow que es valioso creer en las personas, y que al perder la confianza, se pierde un gran tesoro.

Sejanus Plinth, interpretado por Josh Andres Rivera, fue un personaje que me gustó en ocasiones y me molestó en otras. Pertenecía a una importante y adinerada familia del Capitolio, pero no le importaba demostrar su disgusto con la manera en que el gobierno manejaba el país. Es un rebelde, y todos lo apoyamos, pero le faltó la frialdad y astucia de Snow, se dejó llevar por sus emociones y no supo como hacer las cosas, y sí, me molesté con él, porque pudo hacer algo, pero cayó en la desesperación. Sin embargo, su presencia es relevante porque es el único amigo verdadero de Corio, con quién aprende que cada acción tiene su consecuencia.

Although Snow was my favorite character and is the center of the story, there are several key characters that are involved in his development. Lucy Gray, played by Rachel Zegler, is the District 12 tribute that Snow must guide. She's a character who individually lacked development, you can't empathize with her, but I don't dislike her either, because her scenes are important to the plot. Thanks to her charisma and desire for freedom, she manages to win the heart of the protagonist, and together they form a great team during the games process. She taught Snow that it's valuable to believe in people, and that when you lose trust, you lose a great treasure.

Sejanus Plinth, played by Josh Andres Rivera, was a character that I liked at times and bothered me at others. He belonged to an important and wealthy Capitol family, but he didn't mind showing his displeasure with the way the government ran the country. He's a rebel, and we all support him, but he lacked Snow's coolness and cunning, he let himself be carried away by his emotions and didn't know how to do things, and yes, I got annoyed with him, because he could have done something, but he fell into despair. However, his presence is relevant because he's Corio's only true friend, with whom he learns that every action has its consequences.

Con el decano Highbottom, interpretado por mi querido Peter Dinklage, y la doctora Gaul (Viola Davis), conocemos el origen y la verdadera esencia de los Juegos del Hambre. Después de Snow, considero que ellos dos son los personajes claves en toda la historia en general, sus acciones no solo condujeron a Corio a ser el personaje que ya conocíamos, sino que también fueron los promotores de los juegos. Por distintas razones, ambos están corrompidos por el odio, y eso es lo que realmente refleja este sádico show, el odio existente entre los humanos. Uno siente desagrado de ser parte de la creación de los juegos, pero en vez de actuar en contra, lo utiliza para seguir torturando un fantasma del pasado, y la otra disfruta de este maquiavelico evento, el hecho de tener el poder y control, y todo esto, esa sed de venganza, manifestación de odio, y búsqueda del poder, es con lo que se encontrará Katniss y Peeta, sesenta años después.

With dean Highbottom, played by my dear Peter Dinklage, and Dr. Gaul (Viola Davis), we learn the origin and true essence of the Hunger Games. After Snow, I consider the two of them to be the key characters in the whole story in general, their actions not only led to Corio being the character we already knew, but they were also the promoters of the games. For different reasons, both are corrupted by hatred, and that's what this sadistic show really reflects, the hatred that exists between humans. One dislikes being part of the creation of the games, but instead of acting against it, he uses it to continue torturing a ghost from the past, and the other enjoys this machiavellian event, the fact of having power and control, and all this, that thirst for revenge, manifestation of hatred, and pursuit of power, it's what Katniss and Peeta will encounter, sixty years later.

Y para culminar, permiteme tener un momento de fanatica loca. Hay muchas referencias a la saga de Los Juegos del Hambre, los apellidos de las familias (saber que son los antepasados de los personajes que conocemos), las canciones creadas por Lucy que más adelante serán cantadas por Katniss (casi lloro al oír el Árbol del Ahorcado), y además, las razones detrás de su composición, y la mención a las caracteristicas icónicas de los juegos, como los mutos. Y obviamente, finalmente comprender porqué Snow odia el Distrito 12, especialmente, porque odia a Katniss (e incluso conocemos su gusto por las rosas). Gracias a esta película/libro ya todo tiene sentido. Hasta volver a ver los Agentes de la Paz y las rebeliones de los distritos me emocionó, ver la evolución de todo y conocer el desenlace fue cautivador, fue volver a mi adolescencia y sentirme otra vez extasiada por la obra de Suzanne Collins.

And to finish, allow me to have a crazy fan moment. There are many references to the Hunger Games saga, the family names (knowing that they are the ancestors of the characters we know), the songs created by Lucy that will later be sung by Katniss (I almost cried when I heard The Hanging Tree), and also, the reasons behind their composition, and the mention of the iconic features of the games, such as the mutos. And obviously, finally understanding why Snow hates District 12, especially, because he hates Katniss (and we even know her taste for roses). Thanks to this movie/book, everything makes sense. Until seeing the Agents of Peace and the rebellions of the districts again moved me, seeing the evolution of everything and knowing the outcome was captivating, it was going back to my adolescence and feeling ecstatic again by the work of Suzanne Collins.

Podría hablar mucho más, porque realmente no saben cuánto amo a Los Juegos del Hambre, pero no me quiero extender tanto ni robarles la emoción de ir a ver la película y conocer las sorpresa que tiene. En general es una película que recomiendo, es entretenida, con buenas actuaciones y escenografías, dividida en tres arcos argumentales para no perderte en el desarrollo de la historia; pero, además, es una película que los fans como yo van a amar, es volver a Panem, es recordar a nuestro Sinsajo, y es volver a sentir esa impotencia de todo lo que una persona debe hacer para sobrevivir en un mundo distópico como este.

I could talk a lot more, because you really don't know how much I love The Hunger Games, but I don't want to go on so long or rob you of the excitement of going to see the movie and knowing the surprises it has. In general it's a film that I recommend, it's entertaining, with good performances and scenery, divided into three story arcs so as not to get lost in the development of the story; but, also, it's a film that fans like me are going to love, it's going back to Panem, it's remembering our Mockingjay, and it's feeling again that helplessness of everything a person must do to survive in a dystopian world like this.
