La sustancia de Demi Moore.
Demi Moore representa un icono dentro del espectro de estrellas de Hollywood. Recuerdo de niño en aquellos años 90, ver muchas películas en donde estelarizaba grandes clásicos de aquella época, la conocimos con “Ghost” “Propuesta Indecente” “Striptease” y “Los ángeles de Charlie: Al límite”... Algunas de las obras que más recuerdo, porque en mi cabeza llena de canas, olvido otras por lo que otros nombres se escapan a la memoria. Su capacidad actoral y su belleza la catapultaron a estatus de estrella y para nadie es un secreto su matrimonio con el gran Bruce Willis. Moore ha sabido superar sus diversos problemas de adicción y seguir haciendo lo que más le apasiona y luego de varios años de pausa, aparece en este terror corporal llamado “La Sustancia” la cual la convierte en el renacer y la recuperación del estatus de leyenda con una dilatada trayectoria que aún se mantiene activa en la actualidad.

¿Qué es “La Sustancia”?
Es una película de terror corporal y diríamos más bien de horror existencial por los diversos matices que toca en la cual Demo Moore, representa (protagoniza) a una actriz que cae en decadencia al cumplir 50 años y desea retomar el éxito y fama a costa de “La sustancia” la cual le permite rejuvenecer y lograr sus objetivos.
La presentación es muy atrayente y gira en torno a recuperar esa juventud de forma misteriosa con dicho “Líquido” todo sea por lo que representa en aras de ganar, con algo que al principio fue inofensivo.
Claro está que en el avance de la película, el obtener más juventud acarrea mayor dependencia y mayor avaricia por ser más joven y más bonita. Es allí donde la protagonista, prueba las mieles de ser nuevamente lo que alguna vez fue, mientras se ve hundida en las contradicciones personales que ello acarrea.

It is a body horror film and we would rather say existential horror due to the various nuances it touches on in which Demo Moore represents (stars in) an actress who falls into decline when she turns 50 and wishes to regain success and fame at the expense of “The Substance” which allows her to rejuvenate and achieve her goals.
The presentation is very attractive and revolves around recovering that youth in a mysterious way with said “Liquid” everything is for what it represents in the interest of winning, with something that at first was harmless.
Of course in the trailer of the film, obtaining more youth leads to greater dependency and greater greed to be younger and prettier. It is there where the protagonist tries the joys of being again what she once was, while she finds herself plunged into the personal contradictions that this entails.

En este filme podemos ver, esa lucha personal y existencial y llama la atención que lo que plantea más allá del sub-realismo, nos lleve como sociedad a reflexionar ¿Hasta qué punto podemos ser una buena versión nuestra? O ¿Es necesario llenar un estándar para alcanzar la fama? ¿Hasta cuando la sociedad misma exige tanto de la belleza femenina? Puesto que muchas personas caen en el estereotipo de lucir o llenar una exigencia o un canon simplemente por una moda o porque eso es lo que más vende.
Hoy en día, para la mujer es muy fuerte cubrir las expectativas que le demanda una sociedad donde aún se piensa que la belleza es algo que debemos mejorar. Juegan con las inseguridades, con la falta de aceptación o la baja autoestima de la mujer y será por ello que dicen que las mujeres consumen mucho más que los hombres y son los medios de información esa maquinaria feroz que trata de vender cuestiones que nada tienen que ver con la realidad que se vive, que en sí, es distorsionada y el mercado de consumo se encarga de adulterarla mucho más.

In this film we can see that personal and existential struggle and it is striking that what it raises beyond sub-realism, leads us as a society to reflect: To what extent can we be a good version of ourselves? Or is it necessary to meet a standard to achieve fame? How long does society itself demand so much from feminine beauty? En este filme se evidencia además el monstruo que despertamos muchas veces dentro de nosotros, no solo cuando nos deformamos en lo físico sino también en lo mental y en lo espiritual.
Caemos en una adicción por elegir mal y muchas veces no podemos retroceder del hoyo y es cuando no hay punto de retorno. En ese aspecto, no toca más que hundirnos en nuestras pobres miserias. ¿Una cirugía estética o un tratamiento rejuvenecedor, te hace mejor persona? Esta película hace sentir en las pieles del espectador; el terror personal de lo que allí ocurre. Los diálogos, los giros de trama, la imagen, el maquillaje, los efectos visuales y reales, conmueven al punto de ver una puesta gore, grotesca o de caricatura que llega al observador.
Ahora entendemos porque ha ganado algunos Globos de Oro y está nominada al Óscar 2025, en donde se incluye la nominación de la protagonista (Mejor Actriz Principal) por el extraordinario mensaje que deja esta narración. Además de la calidad de la misma, es capaz gane en sus cinco nominaciones, mientras tanto nos leemos en los comentarios. Hasta la próxima. Dios les bendiga…
