Movie review: Nowhere. Una película que te mantendrá al borde del asiento [ES/EN]

¡Hola amigos! En el día de hoy les quiero compartir la reseña de una película que es un estreno reciente de Netflix, se llama Nowhere.

Hello friends! Today I want to share with you the review of a movie that is a recent Netflix release, it's called Nowhere.

Nowhere sigue la historia de una pareja española que decide escapar de su país que se encuentra atravesando una crisis muy grande de abastecimiento y como parte de las medidas extremas impuestas por un gobierno totalitario se decidió acabar con la vida de los ancianos, las mujeres embarazadas y los niños.

Nowhere follows the story of a Spanish couple who decide to escape from their country which is going through a major supply crisis and as part of the extreme measures imposed by a totalitarian government decided to end the lives of the elderly, pregnant women and children.

Mía está embarazada y es por ello que con su esposo, Nico, toman la decisión de huir hacía Irlanda que es el único país europeo que se opone a este régimen. Ellos son transportados en un contenedor junto con otras personas de manera ilegal. Pero en un punto del camino son separados y Nico le promete a Mía que la va a encontrar cuando lleguen a su destino.

Mia is pregnant and so she and her husband, Nico, decide to flee to Ireland, the only European country that opposes this regime. They are transported in a container along with other people illegally. But at one point along the way they are separated and Nico promises Mia that he will find her when they reach their destination.

Al pasar por un puesto de control, un militar descubre que el vehículo transporta personas y decide acabar con sus vidas, pero Mía logra sobrevivir porque se escondió. A pesar de esto, el contenedor llega a su destino, que es un puerto que alberga otros miles de contenedores con personas adentro que esperan ser transportados en un barco.

While passing through a checkpoint, a military man discovers that the vehicle is transporting people and decides to kill them, but Mia manages to survive because she hid. Despite this, the container arrives at its destination, which is a port that houses thousands of other containers with people inside waiting to be transported on a ship.

Al estar en el barco, son sorprendidos por una tormenta muy fuerte y los contenedores caen al agua. Ahora Mía se encuentra a la deriva en el océano y atrapada en el contenedor que se empieza a hundir de a poco. Allí continua su odisea de intentar sobrevivir.

While on the ship, they are caught in a severe storm and the containers fall into the water. Now Mia finds herself adrift in the ocean and trapped in the sinking container. There she continues her odyssey of trying to survive.

Me encontré con esta película por casualidad, ya que quería ver algo distinto, logré mi cometido pero la pase fatal en el proceso. Lo digo porque esta película no me dio ni un segundo de paz, estuve en un estado de tensión constante, así que si sufren de los nervios no la miren. Aunque, al estar todo el tiempo pasando algo no podía despegar la vista de la pantalla. Desde el inicio empieza fuerte y sigue así hasta el final. Sabe muy bien como mantenerte atenta.

I came across this movie by chance, because I wanted to see something different, I achieved my goal but I had a terrible time in the process. I say this because this movie did not give me a second of peace, I was in a constant state of tension, so if you suffer from nerves do not watch it. Although, since there was something going on all the time I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. From the beginning it starts off strong and stays that way until the end. It knows very well how to keep your attention.

Me gustan este tipo de películas donde la trama consiste en sobrevivir a una catástrofe. Vi varias de este estilo y todas son muy impactantes. Pero esta es muy cruda por momentos, tiene escenas muy fuertes, ya con el simple hecho de saber que no les importa matar niños es suficiente. Sin embargo, creo que la trama no es novedosa en sí, quizá todo lo que la envuelve, pero después el hecho de estar a la deriva en el mar intentando sobrevivir ya se vio en otras películas y también hay varios casos en la vida real.

I like this kind of movies where the plot consists of surviving a catastrophe. I saw several of this style and all of them are very shocking. But this one is very raw at times, it has very strong scenes, just knowing that they don't mind killing children is enough. However, I think the plot itself is not new, maybe everything that surrounds it, but then the fact of being adrift at sea trying to survive has already been seen in other movies and there are also several cases in real life.

Me atrae ver cómo se activa el instinto de supervivencia en las personas que están pasando por momentos extremos. Creo que Mía tenía todas las fichas para rendirse, pero era admirable ver todo lo que logró y cómo se las ingenio para proteger a su bebé. Ese fue su principal pilar, cuidar a su bebé como toda una madre leona. Fue bastante impactante su actuar en varios momentos. Quiero destacar la actuación de la actriz Anna Castillo, realmente se lució en su papel. Se cargó al hombro la película, estuvo impecable.

It appeals to me to see how the survival instinct kicks in when people are going through extreme times. I think Mia had all the chips to give up, but it was admirable to see how much she accomplished and how she managed to protect her baby. That was her main pillar, taking care of her baby like a mother lioness. It was quite shocking her acting in several moments. I want to highlight the performance of actress Anna Castillo, she really excelled in her role. She carried the film on her shoulder, she was impeccable.

Si me dejó llevar por la primera impresión, debo decir que es una película excelente. Pero la verdad es que quitando lo impactante de la historia y la buena actuación de Anna, la trama tuvo mucha inconsistencia y agujeros en ella.

If I was carried away by the first impression, I must say that it is an excellent movie. But the truth is that apart from the impact of the story and Anna's good performance, the plot had a lot of inconsistency and holes in it.

Primero porque no se llega a conocer el motivo por el que los países europeos están en esa crisis y se tomaron esas medidas. Sentí que esto quedó en la nada, como si hubiera sido la excusa para hacer que la protagonista termine en el lugar que terminó y allí empezar su odisea, si bien esta comienza desde antes. Al no tener una argumentación sólida, este hecho queda en el olvido, lo que no debería porque es la causa principal que llevó a estás personas a huir de su país en busca de un lugar seguro.

First, because we do not get to know the reason why the European countries are in this crisis and why these measures were taken. I felt that this was left in the nothingness, as if it had been the excuse to make the protagonist end up in the place she ended up and start her odyssey, although it starts before. Not having a solid argumentation, this fact is forgotten, which should not be because it is the main cause that led these people to flee their country in search of a safe place.

Y segundo porque no le encontré sentido a algunas cosas que pasaron, sentí que quedaron en el aire, como que no tenían ni pies ni cabeza. No soy una experta en el tema, pero a mí me parece que si un contenedor, que encima lleva carga, cae al océano, la inundación es inminente. Pero puede que no sea tan así. De hecho, otros contenedores que transportaban más personas se hundieron enseguida. Siguiendo con esta línea de pensamientos, tampoco me explicó cómo el contenedor de Mía llego a su destino habiendo sido descubierto, hubiera quedado retenido o algo similar. También está el hecho de que Mía tuvo varios golpes en su panza mientras estaba embarazada, pero no le ocurrió nada al bebé, y hubo un momento curioso con una ballena que puede ser significativo, pero a la vez quedó como raro.

And second was because I did not make sense of some of the things that happened, I felt that they were left in the air, as if they had neither head nor tail. I am not an expert on the subject, but it seems to me that if a container, carrying cargo on top of it, falls into the ocean, flooding is imminent. But that may not be so. In fact, other containers carrying more people sank right away. Continuing with this line of thought, it also didn't explain to me how Mia's container reached its destination having been discovered, would have been held up or something similar. There is also the fact that Mia had several blows to her belly while she was pregnant, but nothing happened to the baby, and there was a curious moment with a whale that may be significant, but at the same time it was weird.

Fuera de esto, la película es muy conmovedora. Hubo escenas muy realistas que me asombraron bastante. La verdad es que me gustó verla, pero no se la recomendaría a todo el mundo. Después de terminarla quedé un poco alterada, me hizo sentir mucha tensión. Pero, definitivamente, si te gustan las películas de supervivencia tenes que ver esta.

Other than that, the film is very moving. There were some very realistic scenes that were quite astonishing to me. I enjoyed watching it, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. After finishing it I was a bit upset, it made me feel a lot of tension. But, definitely, if you like survival movies you have to see this one.
