A couple of days ago, I was feeling like watching a sci-fi or a thriller movie. So as I was going through some of the movies I haven't seen yet, so '65' got my attention and I went for it. I see that this movie is controversial because a lot of people have different opinions about the movie. Well in this review, I won't have much to say, because the movie didn't give me much impression but still I enjoyed watching the movie. Was it a perfect movie? No it wasn't but it is worth giving it a chance.

'65' is a sci-fi film that was produced by the same producers of 'A Quiet Place'. It was written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods with Sony Pictures as its distributor. The story of the movie was set in the prehistoric era that is 65 million years ago. It starred Adam Driver, Ariana Greenblatt, Chloe Coleman, and Nika King.

On planet Somaris 65 million years ago, pilot Mills was convinced by his wife to make more money by traveling on a two year space mission so that they can treat their daughter's (Nevine) illness. So he went on this mission, but unfortunately his spaceship got hit by massive asteroids. The hit was so bad that he crashed into an unknown planet which is actually earth.

After the crash, Mills discovers that the mission was crippled and all his cargo humans were dead but everything changed when he found a survivor, a little girl, Koa. He nursed her back to good health. Then Mills sends a distress signal but later discovers an escape pod was on a high which will be their ticket out of planet earth.

When she became awake, Mills couldn't communicate with her because of language barrier. As he tries to get her to calm down and cooperate with him, Mills lies to her that her parents were on the mountain where the escape pod is located to get her to move with him to go to the escape pod. As they start the journey to the mountain, they get attacked by dinosaur-like creatures, but they manage to ward them off. Will they both survive? Will they make it to the escape pod?

My Review And Rating.

The concept of this movie is actually an amazing concept which if this movie was produced properly, it would have been a masterpiece but then we get what we see eh? Watching this movie, I thought it was based on a computer game or some book, but it wasn't. Everything about this movie, the outlook designs, cinematography gave off the vibe of a video game. I don't know, maybe it's just me.

I see a lot of people say that this movie was boring and it lacked a thrilling spark which always comes with sci-fi thriller films but I think the problem was the fact that the dialogues in this movie is countable, there wasn't much to say except for all the acts which tells the story of the movie.

In my opinion, this movie isn't that bad, it is averagely okay and it is worth giving it a chance. The director did a good job but it wasn't impressive because the movie started off slow and boring then started to pick up the pace. I wish this movie has more dialogues and it wasn't filmed using 'A Quiet place' technique. Also if this movie was fast-paced it would have been thrilling and gripping to watch. The scene arrangements were okay, the plot was written well except for storytelling which wasn't engaging at all.

The cast were somehow shadow banned except for Koa who is the only character I was able to connect with. Adam Driver was the worst, I couldn't connect, rather I enjoyed his performance. Yes he was able to perform well but still I felt so detached from his character.

The cinematography and CGI was okay but was not impressive because I was expecting more fierce dinosaurs but instead I saw some creatures that I wasn't familiar with and didn't know what kind of species they were. But then, I do recognize some lizard-like and T-Rex. It wasn't new because we have seen these creatures so many times. Also, I appreciate how all the creatures were designed in the movie, it was well done and the CGI was good.

Rating this movie, I will give it a 5 out of 10 stars. It is an average sci-fi film that you can watch to pass time and probably entertain yourself when you get some things done. I enjoyed the movie, it was entertaining but it is a forgettable movie. It had potential to be a thrilling movie but it failed with weak storytelling technique, creativity, cast and finally the ability to catch the audience's attention.

The video game aesthetics seem to seep into action movies. I've seen it in a number of films. This is a great summary of how you felt about the film.
