Confusing Resolution! Cobweb (2023) || Movie Review.
The aim of watching a movie is actually to get entertained from the start to finish and also enjoy the resolution of the story. However, watching a film with an impressive start and then getting to the end you were fed with a lazy, confusing and unrealistic resolution. Ouch! That will hurt! After investing a great amount of your time watching the movie. Well cobweb is a perfect example of this.
At first when I heard of this movie I was a bit reluctant to watch it because of Antony Starr. I am not a fan of his work and it was because of him I stopped watching the TV show titled 'The Boys'. However, I read a positive review online and decided to give it a try. I love horror and this movie is horror. So I thought, it can't be that bad. Then I gave it a try.
'Cobweb (2023)' is an American horror thriller that was written by Chris Thomas Devlin and directed by Samuel Bodin. This movie was distributed by Lionsgate and the story revolves around an eight-year-old boy named Peter who discovers that a voice is trying to communicate with him from the wall of his bedroom and he has to find out who or what it is behind the wall. The movie starred Woody Norman, Lizzy Caplan, Antony Starr, Cleopatra Coleman and Jay Rincon.
The movie starts by introducing us to a timid boy named Peter who lives with his parents in an old house. He is always bullied at school because of his timid nature. Yet at home he is emotionally detached from his parents who act mysteriously. On a beautiful family dinner night, Peter asked his parents if he could go trick-or-treating but his parents immediately rejected his proposal and told him what happened in their city some years back when a girl disappeared on Halloween night. This story made Peter scared.
In the middle of the night when Peter was fast asleep, he began to hear muffled knocks, thuds and footsteps in the wall of his bedroom. Then, a young girl's voice called out to him, he got terrified and immediately called for his parents. His parents came and dismissed all he said and told him it was all a dream. These muffled sounds and voices kept on until Peter decided to find out who was behind the wall. What or who will Peter find? Is it a ghost? Or is their house haunted?
My Review And Rating.
My experience with this movie is strange and confusing. This is the first time I am experiencing such after watching a movie. At the start, I was impressively invested in the movie because of how interesting the beginning was. However, on getting to almost the end, I was thrown off course like a signboard during a tornado. I was thrown into confusion because I began to question myself about what I was watching. Is it a paranormal or horror? Why am I seeing a human spider creature? How did it come to be? What is the back story? Let's leave it at that.
I have to commend the director of this movie for directing the first part of this movie in an intriguing way. It was good, the tension and suspense build was amazing. Also, the writer (Chris Thomas Devlin) conjured up a fantastic story that had potential but in the middle he went of course, lost his MOJO and began to write a story that has nothing to do with the beginning which brings us to the bad script of this movie. However the director did his best to actually give the movie a good outlook, but still it wasn't enough.
Let's talk about the cast. The Cast were amazing with their performances and they were able to portray their roles well in a realistic way. The only problem I think the cast had was the terrible script writing. It destroyed some of their talents and I wished the script was written in a better way. Before I forget, Antony Starr was annoying in this movie as usual. 😑
For the visual and cinematography, it was terrible for me. Everything was dark, shoddy and no proper lighting. Even Peter's house was lacking effective electricity. I would go blind if I lived in that house for months. I love Lights! Also, the human spider creature was terrible and not showcased well. I saw nothing else except for legs, arms and rapunzel-like tangled hair.
Rating this movie, I will give it 4 out of 10 stars. Cobweb is a movie that comes bearing sweet things then leaves you with confusion and no lasting impression. It's suitable for once watching and then just forget you ever watched it. If you haven't seen it yet, go watch it now. Perhaps your experience might be different from mine.

Although you handle certain criticisms of the film, you also know how to deduce its qualities, so in the end I felt the same as you with this film, somewhat conflicted and a divided opinion hehe. It's something that tends to happen a lot when we witness a film, sometimes it's not that we disliked it at all, but we didn't love it either. Anyway, I'm curious about the movie! It doesn't look too bad. Excellent review! Best regards.
I appreciate your thoughtful comment! I completely understand where you're coming from. It's quite common to have mixed feelings about a film, especially when it has both positive aspects and negative criticisms. When you do see the movie, I hope you enjoy it. Thank you for the visit. I appreciate it.
Nothing like enjoying a good movie to pass the time, the bad thing is that it can disappoint you, I almost never watch horror movies, it doesn't always turn out to be what you expect.
Heheh. I agree with you. They don't always turn out the way we expect them to. But still I enjoy watching horror. Thank you for the visit and taking the time to read my review. I appreciate your comment.
Hi @esther-emmanuel, although it is not my genre, as I get scared easily and then I take it to bed, I saw the movie, as you say at the beginning all good, but the end was disappointing. the teacher was saved as she was the main character and the child? Good for your post.
