Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024) || Movie Review.

The excitement I had when I was about to start watching this movie was priceless. Since this movie was announced as one of the projects Ritchie was working on, I have been patiently anticipating the release of this movie into the box office. Now, after watching the movie, I can say it was worth the wait and time. As usual Guy Ritchie never disappoints his fans.

Guy Ritchie's "Ungentlemanly Warfare '' is a movie that is all about true exploits of Britain's Special Operations Executive during World War II and all the events that occurred during that period. In my opinion, Guy Ritchie took his time creating a masterpiece. Is it the cast (exceptional), is it the plot (well written and developed), is it the action (well filmed and directed), is it the comedy (dark and witty), and is it the cinematography (perfection).

’The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024)’ is a spy action comedy that was distributed by Lionsgate. It was directed, co-written and co-produced by Guy Ritchie. It was based on a book by Damien Lewis, titled ’Churchill's Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII’. Also, this movie is a fictionalized version.

This movie starred Henry Cavill, Eiza González, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Henry Golding, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Babs Olusanmokun, Cary Elwes, Rory Kinnear, Danny Sapani, and Sidiq Oluseye.

To avoid spoilers, I won't talk about the plot of this movie and any other thing I talk about this movie will be spoiler free.

My Favorite Characters.

I must confess that the cast of this movie is one of the best for me because all the main actors in this movie are my favorite in Hollywood. The cast of this movie was amazing and entertaining. I will say Ritchie selected the best and most fitting actors for this movie.

Henry Cavill as Gus March-Phillipps

Right from the beginning of this movie, I could tell that Henry was having fun with this role. I got to see a new side of him as an actor. I think I want to see this side more. He shows off a character with zero sense of urgency throughout the movie which is totally different from the serious, brooding muscle character we usually see him play. I say, it was absolutely entertaining watching him play a funny role.

Alan Ritchson as Anders Lassen

Alan did a fantastic job with his role. I actually think his role was quite satisfying to watch. He's the muscle in the movie and a force of nature (he is built like a tank, he's good with bow and arrow, his kills were brutal, he is ruthless and has a thing for ripping people's hearts out). Alan proves himself again to be a good action star yet again just like his performance in ’The Reacher's TV series’. I enjoyed his performance, it was amazing seeing him on screen again.

Babs Olusanmokun as Richard

This man got my attention with the way he seamlessly portrayed his role. He was gentle, intelligent, smart, slick and yet he was a stone cold killer when he needed to be. I enjoyed his performance throughout the movie. At the time I thought that something bad might happen because of his character’s gentle personality, but he unexpectedly displayed that he was a predator hiding in plain sight. That I loved about his character.

Henry Golding as Freddy

According to the movie, Henry played the role of a convict arsonist, who is a good swimmer and loves to blow up things. He was “the explosive guy”. His role was to make fireworks happen which I find thrilling. His performance was good and exciting. I love the energy he brought to the movie.

Eiza González as Marjorie

I was saving the Queen for the last. Eiza was flawlessly beautiful, smart and at the same time ruthless. For her role, she was underestimated because she is a woman, but in the end, she was responsible for the downfall of the antagonist. Also, she was a great spy. I enjoyed watching her all through especially during the test shooting scene.

All the other supporting actors were wonderful. Their performance made this movie interesting and entertaining to watch. Overall, this movie has an exceptional cast.

My Review And Rating.

This movie was a combination of "Sherlock Holmes” and "The Gentlemen”. It was fully packed with witty characters, action, lots of gun usage and violence.

The plot was well written. I love the storytelling technique that was used. Some parts were voice-overs by Henry. One thing I appreciated about this movie was that there was no flashback. If there was, it would have been cliché. The script was excellently written, fully packed with good humor in between the dialogues. Each character had this cheekiness to their personality while they killed their enemies which made the comedy part decent and entertaining. It is a unique approach from Ritchie. Also, I appreciate that there wasn't much use of fowl words for the comedy. It was pure comedy.

The cinematography was absolutely great. The scene arrangements were perfect. The music perfectly matched the film, mood and tone. The wardrobe for the actors was fitting. I loved it! The location was well selected. The action scenes were well filmed. The camera angle was good. One other thing I appreciate about this movie is that there was not much blood regardless of so many kills that took place. If there was, I think people might not have the heart to watch this movie.

However, there is one flaw I saw in this and it was disappointing to me. There was no work done to portray the Yoruba characters in this movie. Yes, the characters' scenes are not much but still the characters should have been portrayed religiously. The Yoruba language was disrespected and spoken with no originality. I wished real Yoruba speaking actors were used in the movie.

Rating this movie, I will give it 9 out 10 stars. It was nice watching a movie I won't be forgetting anytime soon. It was fun, thrilling, entertaining and satisfying. I laughed a lot while watching it. I would recommend you see this movie. You enjoyed it.

Have you seen this movie? Did you enjoy watching it?
