I think they made a good point with the whole review-bombing thing, though I don't agree completely with them because I do think the general reception of the show was impacted by the streamlined negativity, much of it spewed by dishonest, unfaithful fans who were mad about canon being broken with ki adi's age and whatnot (which we know wasn't the case, no Canon was broken here). They pointed out how the show had been review-bombed prior to its even airing, and yet it still managed to have a pretty damn good premiere.

But the drop-off after the premiere for even ep3 was crazy. Having that kind of episode right after the premiere, in hindsight it doesn't feel like a good choice whatsoever We just met those characters, we barely know them. And we're then being shown their entire backstory, and we're instructed by the narrative to be invested. I think whereas, if we get the first backstory scene initially, it helps with it... a little
We see the story of these two characters we're meeting for the first time, all of this is fresh, new, we've never met any of those Jedi before. We know nothing. We have nothing to go on, and then we see the present day consequences of what's just happening
Indara being a random Jedi Master in ep1 to start the show turns into a "Oh wow, it's that Jedi Lady we saw in ep1, and oh wow that's gotta be the girl they tried to take, and burned their village?"
We're prompted with intriguing questions right off the bat that we want answers to. Instead of being told those questions by the narrative, we're shown them--they happen organically between ourselves . I've seen an interesting scenario among the same lines be brought up about my favorite Disney movie, Tangled, before. Because that movie starts by telling us the entire backstory of everything that happened, unlike the acolyte, and unlike this scenario which I'm conjuring up here, but I think the opposite could've been applied to that movie's benefit. And I don't mean to say that as a critique of the movie or anything because it's my favorite Disney movie but the idea of them switching it up a bit, like with what could've been done to Acolyte, is interesting
I imagine that movie without the entire prologue detailing everything that happened to the lost princess, with it just starting out with the flynn rider chase scene, him getting the crown, and then jumping into the main story as we do. Making it so we discover those answers to the protagonists's backstory as the story progresses organically.
