Muchos animes de romance populares (la gran mayoría diría yo) se centran en unas historias dulces y empalagosas de personajes que tienen sus primeros amores mientras ellos luchan por generar un impacto emocional fuerte en el otro personaje a quien están cortejando. Mientras que Given es un anime que combina varias cosas muy interesantes en las relaciones de pareja como lo son la superación de la tristeza del pasado, la aceptación de la propia sexualidad, entre otras cosas. Pero, no hay que olvidarnos de algo, es un anime musical también y en ese aspecto también cumple y muy bien.

Nuestros protagonistas

Uno de nuestros protagonistas, Uenoyama, está perdiendo su pasión por la guitarra y la música en general y mucho menos tiene motivación alguna para la escuela, esto causa que pase gran parte de sus días durmiendo en clase y quedándose dormido en una escalera. Pero, lastimosamente para él, Mafuyu, también visita ese lugar. En eso nuestro protagonista no puede evitar sentirse atraído por una hermosa y sensual guitarra Gibson que posee Mafuyu, y no puede lograr entender como una persona como él pueda llegar a tener un instrumento tan mítico como ese. Uenoyama decide ser profesor de guitarra de Mafuyu y enseñarle su banda.

La soledad es una pieza clave en este anime, en eso la escalera tiene un peso importante en toda esta historia, pero estar juntos como pareja es algo también muy importante, y esto vemos como va evolucionando a lo largo de los capítulos, es un gran anime de romance y las canciones son muy muy buenas, ambas cosas combinan a la perfección.

Given, construye muy bien lo que es el misterio de la historia que hay detrás de Mafuyu, pero no solo se queda ahí y en el romance sino que también está bastante centrado en la música con los nombres de los instrumentos, los amplificadores y otras cosas que tienen que ver con lo que es hacer música y estar en una banda bastante fiel a la realidad. En el que nuestros personajes no son buenos porque el guión así lo quiso, sino que se esfuerzan y vemos ese esfuerzo reflejado en la historia. Pero en lo que ponen gran enfasis en esta serie es en el romance que tienen nuestros protagonistas, con muchos momentos cómicos pero también nos adentramos en los sentimientos de nuestros protagonistas. Esta serie no rehuye para nada del contexto de la homosexualidad en la sociedad.

Tristeza de Mafuyu

Lo que me encanta de Given, como anime musical, es que son lo suficientemente inteligentes como para mantener bajo el nivel de habilidad musical de Mafuyu , sin que este dependa de un milagro del guión (aunque la habilidad que tiene para cantar es muy buena). Uno de los atractivos principales de este anime es ir revelando el porque Mafuyu es como es, y a medida que esta historia de fondo de nuestro protagonista se va descubriendo, se plantea y se resuelve lo hacen de manera espectacular, pero esto no es todo, ya cuando todo parece resuelto, este anime nos recuerda que la vida sigue mientras repasa las consecuencias importantes sin saltarse ningún detalles.

Pero no todo se centra en nuestros protagonistas, porque también nuestro baterista y bajista favoritos tuvieron un desarrollo de personaje espectacular y que le da más profundidad al anime y en ningún momento esto representó una perdida de la calidad narrativa en general del anime, ya que la historia romántica de nuestros protagonistas es simplemente sublime, siendo objetivo, es unas de los mejores anime de romance que he visto, así nuestros protagonistas sean 2 hombres.

While Given is an anime that combines several very interesting things in relationships, such as overcoming the sadness of the past, accepting one's own sexuality, among other things. But, we must not forget something, it is a musical anime as well and in that aspect it also delivers and very well.

One of our protagonists, Uenoyama, is losing his passion for the guitar and music in general and much less has any motivation for school, this causes him to spend much of his days sleeping in class and falling asleep on a staircase. But, unfortunately for him, Mafuyu also has a visit there. In this, our protagonist cannot help but feel attracted to a beautiful and sensual Gibson guitar that Mafuyu owns, and he cannot understand how a person like him could have such a mythical instrument like that. Uenoyama decides to be Mafuyu's guitar teacher and teach him his band.

Loneliness is a key piece in this anime, in that the staircase has an important weight in this entire story, but being together as a couple is also something very important, and we see this how it evolves throughout the chapters, it is a great Romance anime and the songs are very very good, both things combine perfectly.

Given, it builds very well what the mystery of the story behind Mafuyu is, but it not only stops there and in the romance but is also quite focused on the music with the names of the instruments, the amplifiers and other things that have to do with what it is to make music and be in a band that is quite faithful to reality. In which our characters are not good because the script wanted them to be, but rather they make an effort and we see that effort reflected in the story. But what they put great emphasis on in this series is the romance that our protagonists have, with many comic moments but we also delve into the feelings of our protagonists. This series does not shy away from the context of homosexuality in society at all.

Sad Mafuyu

What I love about Given, as a musical anime, is that they are smart enough to keep Mafuyu's musical skill level low, without him depending on a miracle of the script (although his singing ability is very good) . One of the main attractions of this anime is revealing why Mafuyu is the way he is, and as this backstory of our protagonist is discovered, raised and resolved, they do so in a spectacular way, but this is not all, since When everything seems resolved, this anime reminds us that life goes on while reviewing the important consequences without skipping any details.

But not everything focuses on our protagonists, because our favorite drummer and bassist also had spectacular character development that gives more depth to the anime and at no time did this represent a loss of the overall narrative quality of the anime, since the romantic story of our protagonists is simply sublime, to be objective, it is one of the best romance anime I have seen, even if our protagonists are 2 men.
