Una selección poco probable, por mi parte, a partir de la publicidad. Por regla general disfruto más de películas de ciencia ficción y acción constante, sin importar lo increíble de las escenas.
Pero hará unos cinco meses, leí una reseña acerca de esta novela, escrita por el estimado @janaveda, que despertó mi curiosidad por el libro.
Como si el universo conspirara para que lea este libro y conozca este tesoro de la literatura, reflejo de una historia reciente, un siglo poco más o menos (tiempo que tiene la vieja Italia como país moderno consolidado), a los pocos días de leer la reseña entré en una pequeña librería, que resultó ser de un compatriota, en donde esculcando entre las ofertas, encontré un par de libros de interés.

La verdad es que aunque comencé a leerlo casi de inmediato, no lo encontré acorde con mi estado de ánimo y aún no alcanzo la página 50 de las menos de 300 que conforman el libro. Un ejemplar de lujo adquirido a excelente precio por tratarse de segunda mano, pero magníficamente conservado.
Muchas han sido las reflexiones surgidas a la vista de esta historia relacionada con el nacimiento de la moderna nación italiana, hasta ese momento dividida y controlada por distintos poderes.

Todo debe cambiar para que todo continúe igual.

Frase relevante expresada por uno de los protagonistas con motivo de la incipiente revolución, resulta trascendente en la historia en cuestión y en la actualidad.
Prefiero abstenerme de volcar ninguna opinión política, ya que puede ser un tema excesivamente sensible y como en todo, cada quien es libre de tener sus opiniones y creencias.
Como hispanoamericano, incluyo este capítulo en el contexto de los últimos 500 años y la relación existente con los personajes reales de la novela.
Garibaldi: Revolucionario con amplia trayectoria en América del Sur antes de intervenir en la creación de la República Italiana.
El Príncipe, en principio ficticio, representa un noble de una de las familias reales que aún hoy en día ostentan una corona real en Europa. Los Borbones, dinastía de origen francés que reina en España y Luxemburgo.

Volviendo a la serie, de la que aún no puedo atestiguar si es fiel reflejo del libro, pues como dije, sigo leyendo sin prisa, si diré que al parecer eligió a los protagonistas con similares parámetros al director Visconti, quien hace mucho, mucho tiempo llevo la novela al cine con Burt Lancaster como protagonista.
En todas las versiones me parece evidente que tanto el protagonista, como el autor, reflejan la preocupación humana por la fugacidad de la vida, la perdida de salud y la vejez, más que por las revoluciones, ideologías, privilegios y otras vanidades que mueven el mundo.

Considerando lo mucho que algunas de estas vanidades nos afectan en el diario vivir, me atrevo a recomendar que disfruten de la serie y dejen las reflexiones para después.
Total el mundo sigue dando vueltas sin que lo podamos detener, y eso tampoco nos conviene.

Something different on this platform's programming schedule. A six-part, one-hour miniseries that I enjoyed almost nonstop over the past few rainy days.

An unlikely choice, for me, based on the advertising. As a rule, I enjoy science fiction films with constant action, no matter how incredible the scenes.
But about five months ago, I read a review of this novel, written by the esteemed @janaveda, which sparked my curiosity about the book.
As if the universe conspired to make me read this book and discover this literary treasure, a reflection of a recent history, roughly a century old (the time that old Italy has been a consolidated modern country), a few days after reading the review, I went into a small bookstore, which happened to be owned by a fellow countryman, where, browsing through the offerings, I found a couple of interesting books.

The truth is that although I started reading it almost immediately, it didn't suit my mood, and I still haven't reached page 50 of the less than 300 pages that make up the book. A luxury copy acquired at an excellent price for being secondhand, but magnificently preserved.
Many reflections have arisen from this story related to the birth of the modern Italian nation, until then divided and controlled by different powers.

Everything must change so that everything remains the same.

A relevant phrase expressed by one of the protagonists on the occasion of the incipient revolution, it is transcendent in the story in question and in the present day.
I prefer to refrain from expressing any political opinions, as this can be an excessively sensitive subject, and as with everything, everyone is free to have their own opinions and beliefs.
As a Latin American, I include this chapter in the context of the last 500 years and the relationship with the real-life characters in the novel.
Garibaldi: A revolutionary with an extensive career in South America before participating in the creation of the Italian Republic.
The Prince, initially fictional, represents a nobleman from one of the royal families that still hold a royal crown in Europe today: the Bourbons, a dynasty of French origin that reigns in Spain and Luxembourg.

Returning to the series, which I cannot yet confirm is a faithful reflection of the book (as I said, I continue reading slowly), I will say that it seems that the protagonists were chosen with similar parameters to director Visconti, who long ago adapted the novel into a film starring Burt Lancaster.
In all versions, it seems clear to me that both the protagonist and the author reflect the human concern for the fleeting nature of life, the loss of health, and old age, rather than for the revolutions, ideologies, privileges, and other vanities that drive the world.

Considering how much some of these vanities affect us in our daily lives, I dare say you enjoy the series and leave the reflections for later.
After all, the world keeps turning without us being able to stop it, and that doesn't suit us either.
