Yesterday Sunday we decided to spend the day at home, quietly watching some series and movies, recently we were recommended this movie 🎥 🎞️ "El Padre" released a couple of years ago and since it is available in the Netflix catalog we decided to watch it. Beforehand I must say that I liked the movie, and that's why I was encouraged to start my week of content creation by doing my review of this film. As always, there will be no spoilers and I will try to give a philosophical view to certain ideas that during the film persuaded my attention and interest.

Synopsis

The great Anthony (Anthony Hopkins), an elderly man in his late eighties, stubborn and somewhat suspicious, resolutely rejects every attempt his daughter makes to get a caregiver to help her with her father's care, as he seems to be losing his lucidity. Anthony clings to the idea of being able to live his own life independently.

Ayer domingo decidimos pasar el día en casa, tranquilos viendo algunas series y películas, hace poco nos recomendaron está película 🎥 🎞️ "El Padre" estrenada hace un par de años y como está disponible en el catálogo de Netflix decidimos verla. De antemano debo decir que la película me gustó, y es por ello que me animé a comenzar mi semana de creación de contenido haciendo mi reseña de este filme. Cómo siempre, no habrá spoilers e intentaré darle una visión filosófica a ciertas ideas que durante la película persuadieron mi atención e interés.

Sinopsis

El gran Anthony (Anthony Hopkins) un hombre de tercera edad, aproximadamente unos ochenta y tantos años, de actitud terca y algo suspicaz, rechaza con determinación cada uno de los intentos que su hija hace por conseguir algún cuidador quien le ayude con el cuidado de su padre, ya que este parece perder la lucidez. Anthony se aferra a la idea de poder vivir su propia vida de manera independiente.

Plot

Every film 🎥 has at least one plot from which the dialogues and the elements that give meaning to the production are derived. In this film the thread 🧵 weaves in function of the loss of connection with reality. Dementia as a breaking point of lucidity in the elderly is something that we can not fully imagine, and the film 🎞️ tries to make the viewer feel sketches and brushstrokes of such a condition.

I think it is quite commendable the work in the dialogues, scenography, shots, approaches, cast to achieve an experience that goes beyond the screen.

It is interesting when a film breaks the 4th wall, when an actor interacts with the viewer, because in this film it is the viewer who inevitably interacts with the film.

Desperation is the emotion that grows as the film progresses and Anthony Hopkins' work is monumental and the development of his character is coherent and very neat.

Argumento

Cada película 🎥 posee por lo menos un argumento del cuál se desprenden los diálogos y los elementos que aportan sentido a la producción. En este filme el hilo 🧵 teje en función de la perdida de conexión con la realidad. La demencia como punto se quiebre de lucidez en las personas mayores es algo que no podemos imaginar del todo, y la película 🎞️ intenta hacer sentir al espectador esbozos y pinceladas de tal padecimiento.

Creo que es bastante loable el trabajo en los diálogos, escenografía, tomas, enfoques, reparto para lograr una experiencia que va más allá de la pantalla.

Es interesante cuando una película rompe la 4ta pared, cuando algún actor interactúa con el espectador, pues en esta película es el espectador que inevitablemente interactúa con el film.

La desesperación es la emoción que va creciendo en lo que la película va avanzando y vaya que el trabajo que hace Anthony Hopkins es monumental y el desarrollo de su personaje es coherente y muy prolijo.

Imagine that one day you wake up and everything you "believe" to be established or known is not as you remember it. Imagine that you forget the faces of the people you love.

Augustine of Hippo said that memory is that which puts us in front of ourselves, we are in great part what we remember. Our reality is not a certain way, reality is as we are. The film undermines and disrupts the immanent importance of memory. We rely too much on the human capacity to remember.

The film philosophically stands in that abyss of conceiving our environment as the real, as I watched the film I wondered, can I fully trust my construction of the world, are things really the way I think they are? Those same dissertations that Rene Descartes once made crossed my mind. Reflections on reality that conditioned Descartes to his famous thesis "I think, therefore I am" (cogito ergo sum), a thesis that does not satisfy me.

Final Words

The movie is very enjoyable as it inevitably involves you, makes you part of the plot. I think Anthony's character is very well constructed and even better developed by Anthony Hopkins. 🏛️Aspectos filosófico:🏛️

¿Qué es la realidad? Nuestra mente crea nuestra realidad, a veces no lo tenemos demasiado en cuenta. Te invito a hacer un ejercicio mental... Imagina que un día despiertas y todo lo que "crees" tener por establecido o por sabido no es como lo recuerdas. Imagina que olvidas el rostro de las personas que amas.

Decía Agustín de Hipona que la memoria es eso que nos pone a nosotros frente a nosotros mismos, somos en gran parte lo que recordamos. Nuestra realidad no es de una manera determinada, la realidad es según nosotros somos. La película socava y trastoca la inmanente importancia de la memoria. Confiamos demasiado en la capacidad humana de recordar.

La película filosóficamente se ubica en ese abismo de concebir nuestro entorno como lo real, mientras miraba el film me preguntaba ¿puedo confiar plenamente en mi construcción del mundo? ¿realmente las cosas son como yo creo que son? Me pasó por la mente esas mismas disertaciones que en algún momento se hizo Rene Descartes. Reflexiones en torno a la realidad que condijeron a Descartes a su famosas tesis "Pienso, luego existo"(cogito ergo sum), tesis que a mi no me satisface.

Palabras Finales

La película es muy disfrutable ya que inevitablemente te involucra, te hace parte de la trama. Creo que los personaje de Anthony esta muy bien construido y aun mejor desarrollado por Anthony Hopkins.
