The Beekeeper Movie Review

Around a week ago i watched the new Statham movie and pretty much it's what exactly you expect from a Statham movie. I think at this point some actors like Statham, Bruce Willis, Stalone, Dwayne Johnson, and Jackie Chan, have created a new genre of movies with their names. It's not that they are bad actors or that they can't play different roles, most of them have actually played different kinds of roles, but they are more well-known nowadays for that specific or niche genre!

Thus, knowing what to expect i decided to kill some time and enjoy a movie while eating dinner. So the movie was directed by David Ayer known for Suicide Squad, and written by Kurt Wimmer. Of course, the star of the show is Jason Statham. Now let's start with the plot and then move on with what i liked and what i didn't.

Plot

The story starts pretty straightforward with Statham working as a beekeeper, having his bees in an old woman's houseyard let's say. The old woman gets a phone call from scammers saying to her that she has a computer issue and that they will help her solve and download an antivirus or something. To everyone's surprise, they get all her money and she has more than 1 million.

That million is not exactly hers but she manages a charity fund so you can imagine how she must have felt when that amount was gone. Due to that she commits suicide and the next day her daughter who is a cop tries to find out what happened and they find Statham inside the house who actually tries to find what's happening himself.

He then seeks revenge and tries to find those who are behind the scam call center. Apparently, though the story is a bit deeper as people with higher positions and a lot more money and connections are behind this. Statham doesn't give a shit though because he is a retired beekeeper, which is supposed to be a high-level agent above any law and such who does what he wants for the sake of the world! You can imagine the fight scenes that took place!

What I Liked and What I Didn't

Basically what i like is the cold-like attitude Statham has. He seems too serious and at the same time he isn't and you might hear some jokes. Also, the fight scenes are always awesome and this time as well. It seems a bit more realistic though for a Statham movie which was cool for me. Most of the other actors were mediocre besides Jeremy Irons and Josh Hutcherson who were pretty cool.

Another cool thing was that this movie in a comical way was closer to reality in terms of scams and such. We actually saw a call center doing internet scams which is quite common these days and a "Mastermind" who was actually a rich millennial skateboarding and eating sushi in his million-dollar company!

What I didn't like were the FBI agents who seemed like a bunch of schoolboys having no idea of what they were doing and as i mentioned most of the actors except the 3 above were quite mediocre. Ofc the plot is not something amazing so don't expect much. Even though it's interesting it seems a bit rushed but ofc most of Statham's movies are like that so i had no high expectations regarding that aspect.

Overall, i would give it a 7/10 if you like that kind of movies. I would suggest watching it if you are bored, have free time and want to see an action-packed movie just to have a good time. If you want something with drama, a deep plot and such then stay away :P
