HANS LANDA MY FAVORITE VILLAIN [ENG-ESP]

I have always liked war films, especially from the Second World War, we have many classics from this era where we almost always see values ​​such as bravery and heroism reflected in the midst of a climate of drama and death. In these films we have had memorable characters who display such virtues, but on this occasion I want to briefly talk about a totally different character, SS Colonel Hans Landa, a fictional character created by Tarantino in his film Inglourious Basterds, I will outline briefly why I consider him my favorite villain among so many others that exist in cinema.

En estas películas hemos tenidos personajes memorables que hacen gala de tales virtudes, pero en esta oportunidad quiero hablar brevemente de un personaje totalmente diferente, del coronel de las SS Hans Landa, un personaje ficticio creado por Tarantino en para su película Bastardos sin Gloria, esbozaré brevemente por qué lo considero mi villano favorito entre tantos otros que existen en el cine.

Hans Landa is a psychopath, that is clear to us from the beginning, and characters with these characteristics always draw our attention due to the degree of moral inhibition they possess. Science debates whether they have neurological damage or if they are simply born with these characteristics. The truth is that their absence of empathy as well as their almost zero fear attract us since they personify what we wish we could do without consequences. That is why from the beginning I was captivated by his character, his entry into the French family home was something sublime and macabre, he showed us all the qualities he possesses: excessive cunning, acute intelligence, and a capacity to manipulate that is capable of make anyone present feel the slightest degrees of tension. His favorite mental game is that of cat and mouse, he makes his victims feel that he knows all their movements, that he lets them play freely for their personal amusement, this is what he does with the father of the family, who hides some Jews who are under the floor of the store. In this kind of human chess, I was always struck by how Colonel Hans Landa takes out his pipe to smoke, which is the only time he does so in the entire film, but it is a message to the father of the French family, that his pipe He is older and that he is a great detective, and he is so great in what he does that everyone is already discovered, but he simply wants to have fun, and we already know how this introduction of the character ends.

Por eso desde el inicio me cautivó su personaje, su entrada hacia el hogar de la familia francesa fue algo sublime y macabra, nos mostró todas las cualidades que posee: una astucia desmedida, una aguda inteligencia, y una capacidad para manipular que es capaz de hacer sentir los más mínimos grados de tensión a cualquier presente. Su juego mental favorito es el del gato y del ratón, hace sentir a sus víctimas que conoce todos sus movimientos, que los deja jugar libremente para su diversión personal, es lo que hace con el padre de familia, quien oculta a unos judíos que están debajo del piso de la tienda. En esta especie de ajedrez humano me llamó siempre la atención como el coronel Hans Landa saca su pipa para fumar, lo cual es la única vez que lo hace en toda la película, pero es un mensaje al padre de familia francés, de que su pipa es más grande y de que es un gran detective, y es tan grande en lo que hace que ya todos estas descubiertos, pero simplemente el se quiere divertir, y ya sabemos como termina esta introducción del personaje.

The colonel has a very big ego which could easily be classified as a narcissist, since he loves to play and be recognized as more intelligent, and in fact, he always makes sure to be two steps ahead of everyone. In the end he speaks in fluent Italian, and the bastards' look is simply a poem in limbo, because they don't know what the hell he's talking about.

This final really disconcerted me, with all the cruelty manifested I expected a horrible end, however, always faithful to what he is, he managed to turn adversity in his favor to save himself, emerging almost unscathed from all his cruelties, for this and more it is my favorite villain.

Something that caught my attention is that Tarantino's presentation of his character has a clear nod and influence from the film The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, by Sergio Corleone, where at the beginning we are introduced to the Bad Guy, played by Lee Van Cleff, both scenes are very similar, if you have seen this western classic you will understand the reference very well, and it is something that I never miss in the films that I watch and enjoy, that they have a good reference. For the rest, I have nothing more to say about this great character who has undoubtedly earned a brilliant place in the history of cinema. No solo es un genio del mal, gran detective, manipulador, sin duda es un personaje abominable con un carisma que envuelve a todos los presentes. El señor Christoph Waltz hizo un trabajo simplemente maravilloso, el hecho de que hable varios idiomas de manera fluida y que los haya incorporado a su personajes, nos hace sentir que estamos ante la presencia de un genio. Algo qu me llamó la atención es que la presnetación que hace Tarantino de su personaje tiene un claro guiño e influencia de la película El bueno, El malo y el Feo, de Sergio Corleone, donde al inicio se nos presenta al Malo, interpretado por Lee Van Cleff, ambas escenas son muy parecidas, si han visto este clásico del western entenderán muy bien la referencia, y es algo que nunca dejo pasar en las películas que observo y disfruto, que tengan una buena referencia. Por lo demás, no me queda más que decir de este gran personaje que sin duda se ha gando un puesto brillante en la historia del cine.
