Ruby Gillman Teen Age Kraken // Krakens y Sirenas, Conoce a los Gillman - Review
Hello, hello, lovers of good movies and tv, happy weekend! in this home we are on school vacation, so we have to distract the blessing somehow, and with animated movies we both win hahaha, yesterday we dedicated ourselves to watch Ruby Gillman Teen Age Kraken, Krakens and Sirens, Meet the Gillmans (Spanish title), this was a movie we wanted to see for a long time, and the truth is that, after seeing Puss in Boots, The Last Wish, the expectations were quite high, and I can already say that although it is not a bad movie, it did not meet the expectations, probably because of the meter I had placed on it. Certainly DreamWorks along with Pixar have been known for creating excellent computer animated pieces that leave everyone asking for more, usually because of the quality of their films. Many have been the criticisms that this plot has received, based on the life of a teenage Kraken, brought to the scene presenting most of the typical problems of a human teenager.
We meet Ruby Gillman, a kraken whose family has infiltrated among humans, forcing them to walk upright and on two tentacles, covering their guts and trying to be "normal" people, a teenager who is confronted with the traditions of the people of Oceanside, she is in love with a boy and wants to ask him to the dance, It is in the middle of what would be the proposal, that makes entry that will become her antagonist, Chelsea Van Der Zee, who at first is made to look like a popular girl, who later lets herself be seen as a mermaid. Ruby is forced to enter the water, which her mother Agatha has always forbidden her to do, for obvious reasons, it is then that the transformation occurs, a giant kraken emerges, full of luminescence, typical of the animals at the bottom of the ocean, causing an explosion that is felt throughout the ocean, even Ruby's grandmother, who has not known anything about her for 15 years, feels the transformation.
Like any teenager, she is curious, a drastic change in her life awakens her even more, making her go into the ocean to meet her grandmother, who gives her more details of her descent and heritage, and also tells her about her mother and why she went to hide among humans, her grandmother, the Great Queen, also tells her about the enemies and true monsters of the ocean, and shows her her greatest enemy, the mermaids, especially the queen of the mermaids. It is at this point where the plot of the movie becomes a bit obvious and I think that is one of the things that the audience has criticized the most, the obviousness of the plot, and the lack of depth of the vast majority of the characters.
It is a rather scattered story in terms of the development of the rest of the characters, certainly so, because they basically focus on the story of Ruby, to tell the truth is the protagonist, and it is understandable, however, as I mentioned before, this film left many wanting more, but more story, because there is not much we get to know about the rest of the characters, even Chelsea Van Der Zee herself, they only tell us that she is the mermaid queen in search of revenge, they leave us without the romance between the protagonist and Connor, her crush, they show us the havoc that teenagers are capable of doing, this analogy is more than understandable, this is how teenagers are, they live many changes and most of the time they don't know how to express them.
As for the graphic development of the film, I was not enchanted, except for the almost perfect mermaid, which then becomes a diabolical mermaid hungry for power, I did not feel in love with the animation to the fullest, probably because I wanted to compare it with other films whose animation is exceptional, even 20 years old.
I love how they adapted the things that teenagers do and use everyday, to Ruby's life, the way she begs her parents to let her attend the school dance, reminds me a lot of the movie Red, when Mei asks for permission to attend a concert, even receiving the same NO as an answer. Even though it is not an entirely original plot and with the criticisms I have told you about, it is an animated movie that my son and I enjoyed, and at the end of the day that is what mattered to us, because, although there are some criticisms, we focused on the enjoyment of it.
For my part and in view of everything I have told you, I give this movie a 7/10, because it is not as bad as many say, but it is not as good as I expected, for the little ones in the house, it is certainly a great movie, surely we will see it a few more times, that's how kids are with these movies hahaha, and I play along.

¡Hola, hola, amantes del buen cine y la tv, feliz fin de semana! en este hogar estamos de vacaciones escolares, así que hay que distraer a la bendición de alguna manera, y con películas animadas salimos ganando los dos jajaja, ayer nos dedicamos a ver Ruby Gillman Teen Age Kraken, Krakens y Sirenas, Conoce a los Gillman (título en español), esta era una película que queríamos ver desde hace rato, y la verdad es que, después de ver El Gato con Botas, El Ultimo Deseo, las expectativas eran bastante altas, y desde ya puedo decir que aunque no es una mala película, no cubrió las expectativas, probablemente por el medidor que le había colocado. Ciertamente DreamWorks junto a Pixar se han caracterizado por crear excelentes piezas animadas por computadora, que dejan a todos pidiendo más, generalmente por la calidad de sus películas. Muchas han sido las críticas que ha recibido esta trama, basada en la vida de una Kraken adolescente, llevada a escena presentando la mayoría de los típicos problemas de una adolescente humana.
Nos encontramos a Ruby Gillman, una kraken cuya familia se ha infiltrado entre los humanos, obligándose a caminar erguidos y en dos tentáculos, cubriendo sus agallas y tratando de ser personas "normales", una adolescente que se enfrenta a las tradiciones de las personas de Oceanside, está enamorada de un chico y quiere invitarlo al baile, que aunque para ella es una tradición algo sosa, no descarta el querer ir con su amigo, es en medio de lo que sería la propuesta, que hace entrada la que se convertirá en su antagonista, Chelsea Van Der Zee, quien en principio se hace ver como una chica popular, que más adelante se deja ver como una sirena. Ruby se ve obligada a entrar al agua, lo que su madre Agatha le ha prohibido desde siempre, por obvias razones, es entonces que surge la transformación, un kraken gigante emerge, lleno de luminiscencia, típico ce los animales del fondo del océano, causando un estallido que se hace sentir en todo el océano, hasta la abuela de Ruby quien no sabía nada de ella desde hace 15 años, siente la transformación.
Como toda adolescente, siente curiosidad, un cambio drástico en su vida la despierta aún más, haciendo que se interne en el océano para conocer a su abuela, quien le da más detalles de su descendencia y herencia, y además le habla de su madre y del porque se fue a esconderse entre los humanos, su abuela, la Gran Reina, le cuenta además, sobre los enemigos y verdaderos monstruos del océano, y le muestra a su mayor enemigo, las sirenas, especialmente la reina de las sirenas. Es en este punto en donde la trama de la película se vuelve un poco obvia y creo que, es una de las cosas que más ha criticado el público, lo obvio de la trama, y la falta de profundidad de la gran mayoría de los personajes.
Es una historia bastante dispersa en cuanto al desarrollo del resto de los personajes, ciertamente es así, pues básicamente se enfocan en la historia de Ruby, a decir verdad es la protagonista, y es algo entendible, sin embargo, como lo mencione antes, esta película dejo a muchos con ganas de más, pero de más historia, pues no es mucho lo que llegamos a saber del resto de los personajes, incluso de la misma Chelsea Van Der Zee, solo nos cuentan que es la reina sirena en busca de venganza, nos dejan sin el romance entre la protagonista y Connor, su crush, nos muestran los estragos que son capaces de hacer los adolescentes, esta analogía esta más que entendible, así son los adolescentes, viven muchos cambios y la mayor parte de las veces no saben cómo expresarlas.
En cuanto al desarrollo grafico de la película, no me encanto, exceptuando a la casi perfecta sirena, que luego se convierte en una diabólica sirena hambrienta de poder, no me sentí enamorada al máximo de la animación, probablemente por haber querido compararla con otras películas cuya animación es excepcional, incluso con 20 años de antigüedad.
Me encanta como adaptaron las cosas que hacen y usan a diario los adolescentes, a la vida de Ruby, la manera en que le suplica a sus padres que la dejen asistir al baile de la escuela, me hace recordar mucho a la película Red, cuando Mei les pide permiso para asistir a un concierto, recibiendo incluso el mismo NO como respuesta. Aun cuando no es una trama del todo original y con las críticas que les he comentado, es una película animada que disfrutamos mi hijo y yo, y al final de cuenta es lo que nos importaba, pues aunque son algunas las críticas, nos enfocamos en el disfrute de la misma.
De mi parte y en vista de todo lo que les he comentado, le doy a esta película un 7/10, pues no esta tan mal como muchos dicen, pero tampoco esta tan bien como me la esperaba, para los más pequeños de la casa, sin duda es una película genial, seguramente la veremos unas cuantas veces más, así son los niños con estas películas jajaja, y yo le sigo el juego.

Te felicito por la reseña y tu opinión firme acerca del argumento de la película. Te voy a exponer lo que pensé de ella, es un tema recurrente sobre la adolescencia en el séptimo arte, pero se debe abordar porque siempre será tema; me gusta la diversidad marcada entre los compañeros de la escuela, se respeta la individual. La familia "común" con secretos y normas que al final requiere de un reajuste. Te digo lo que me gustó, son los hermosos colores de la película y de acuerdo a mi niña de 6 años me repetía: alguien miente, es posible que la sirena esconda algo, el film hizo reflexionar a mi hija para dar con respuestas. Espero que exista una segunda parte, pero sin dañar la anterior.
Opino de manera muy similar, para los mas pequeños es una muy buena película, además deja ver a los mas pequeños las consecuencias de no hacer caso a las indicaciones de los padres, que aun cuando puedan ocultar algo, tienen sus razones para ello, y esto es algo que mi hijo entendió a la perfección.

Lamentablemente, las últimas películas animadas han sido muy predecibles, para los adultos que nos gusta este género, puede ser un tanto aburrida; sin embargo, para los más pequeños, es algo que disfrutan, pues no siempre de dan cuenta de la predictibilidad de la trama.
