This is really a faithful adaptation to the anime, which is why it is relatively good for those of us who like the original animated series, although I must also say that I would have liked to see another approach to the story, that new things would be shown, although seeing the series it seems to me that other seasons will be released, since the ending was open for other installments. I don't really know if a second season was officially announced, what I am sure of is that I want to continue watching the story of Aang and his adventure to master the four elements (air, water, earth and fire), the task of the Avatar, according to the story, in order to give balance to the world and bring peace back.

Plot

Delving a little deeper into the plot for those who do not know the original story, who never saw the anime, this series tells us about Aang, a child airbender who was the only survivor of the airbenders. Aang is not only a master of one of the elements, but he is also the Avatar, the one who controls the four elements and as I said before, he controls the balance of the world to keep it in peace. But, the Fire Nation and its emperor, attacked the airbenders, eliminating them all, leaving only little Aang who disappeared after being trapped in an iceberg for 100 years. After his return and in the company of Katara and Sokka (both from the water nation), who become his faithful friends, accompanying him in his difficult mission. We also have Prince Zuko who is the antagonist of this first season, who was sent by his father, the emperor of the country of the game, to marry Aang.

Realmente esta es una adaptación fiel al anime, razón por la cual es relativamente bueno para aquellos que nos gusta la serie animada original, aunque también debo decir que me fuese gustado ver otro enfoque de la historia, que se mostraran nuevas cosas, aunque viendo la serie me parece que saldrán otras temporadas, ya que el final fue abierto para otras entregas. No sé realmente si se anunció oficialmente una segunda temporada, lo que sí estoy seguro es que quiero seguir viendo la historia de Aang y su aventura para poder dominar los cuatro elementos (aire, agua, tierra y fuego), tarea del Avatar, según la historia, con la finalidad de darle un equilibrio al mundo y que la paz vuelva nuevamente.


Trama


Profundizando un poco en la trama para aquellos que no conocen de la historia original, que nunca vieron el anime, esta serie nos habla de Aang, un niño maestro aire que fue el único sobreviviente de los maestros aires. Aang no solo un maestro de uno de los elementos, sino que además es el Avatar, aquel que controla los cuatro elementos y como les dije anteriormente, controla el equilibrio del mundo para que este se mantenga en paz. Pero, la nación del fuego y su emperador, atacaron a los maestros aires, eliminándolos a todos, tan solo quedando el pequeño Aang quien desapareció tras quedar atrapado en un iceberg por 100 años. Luego de su regreso y en compañía de Katara y Sokka (ambos de la nación del agua), quienes se vuelven sus fieles amigos, acompañándolo en su difícil misión. También tenemos a Príncipe Zuko quien es el antagonista de esta primera temporada, quien fue enviado por su padre, el emperador del país del juego, a casar a Aang.

The plot of the series seemed good to me and of course, if I also liked the anime and being the adaptation so faithful, at least from what I remember, it can't be otherwise. But, this doesn't mean that it was perfect, since at times the scenes were very slow, with a lot of dialogue and less action, although it didn't end up ruining my experience. I agree that the adaptation should be as faithful as possible, but I would also like to see more explored in the stories of the main characters, to know more about the parents of Aang's friends, for example, how the airbenders were shown and how they were attacked, something that doesn't appear in the anime, at least that I remember. I must say that I saw the anime years ago and there are cases that I don't remember very well, so this Live action is quite good for me.

Several years ago there was also a movie (Live action) of Avatar, the last airbender, but everything focused more on the journey of Aang and his arrival to the great northern city (north pole) of the water nation and everything happens just like the anime, the same thing that happens with the series that came out in this 2024, although something in favor of this year's remake is that being a series of eight chapters, it had the opportunity to cover much more in the story, something that can not happen in a film of a little more than an hour and a half. In short, this series is a remake of the 2010 film, plus more scenes taken from the story of the animated series.

Something I liked about this animated series was the cast, since the actors are more similar to the anime than the 2010 movie, since in this remake Asian actors were used to play the characters with these features, because remember that the anime is Japanese. Aang in this TV series is played by Gordon Cormier, a Canadian actor of Filipino origin and who really fits the character very well, even I thought I was watching the anime. The same goes for Katara played by Kiawentiio and Sokka played by Ian Ousley. Actually, as for the main characters, the selection was the right one, since the actor Dallas Liu played the role of Prince Zuko and this was quite good for him. The series has a good amount of main, recurring and guest actors and actresses, each one does a good job with their characters, although we know that some are better than others. The cast work is pretty good, although I must say that it is not the best of the series, as some characters I connect enough, I believe what I'm seeing and in others not so much.

As for the photography, I can tell you that it is undoubtedly one of the best of this live action of Avatar, the last airbender. The cinematographers were Michael Balfry, Michael Goi and Stewart Whelan, doing a wonderful job, the places were very well recreated, all very much according to the anime and that is something in favor of the series and of which the fans of this story should be very happy, including myself. Another strong point of the series is the visual effects, they are really beautiful and more in a fantasy series, where the elements, fire, water, air and earth are used as a means of defense and attack, it really gives pleasure to see this production, a great improvement over the 2010 film. The visual effects were in charge of studio DNEG.

La trama de la serie me pareció bueno y como no, si el anime también me gustó y al ser la adaptación tan fiel, al menos de lo que recuerdo, no puede ser de otro forma. Pero, esto no quiere decir que haya sido perfecto, ya que por momentos las escenas se me hacían muy lentas, mucho diálogo y menos acción, aunque finalmente no terminó arruinando mi experiencia. Estoy de acuerdo en que la adaptación sea lo más fiel posible, pero también me fuese gustado que fuesen explorados más en las historias de los personajes principales, conocer más de los padres de los amigos de Aang como por ejemplo, tal como se mostró a los maestros aires y como fueron atacados, algo que no sale en el anime, al menos que recuerde. Debo decir que vi el anime hace año y hay casos que no recuerdo muy bien, así que este live action me cae bastante bien.


Hace varios años también había salido una película (Live action) de Avatar, el último maestro aire, pero todo se centró más en el viaje de Aang y su llegada a la gran ciudad del norte (polo norte) de la nación del agua y todo ocurre tal cual al anime, lo mismo que pasa con la serie que salió en este 2024, aunque algo a favor del remake de este año es que al ser una serie de ocho capítulos, se tuvo la oportunidad de abarcar mucho más en la historia, algo que no puede suceder en un filme de un poco más de una hora y media. En fin, esta serie es un remake de la película de 2010, además de más escenas tomadas de la historia de la serie animada.


Algo que me gustó de esta serie animada fue el cast, ya que actores son más parecidos al anime de lo que fue la película del 2010, puesto que el este remake se usaron actores asiáticos para interpretar los personajes con estos rasgos, porque recordar que el anime es japonés. Aang en esta serie de TV es interpretado por Gordon Cormier, un actor canadiense de origen filipino y quien realmente le queda muy bien el personaje, incluso me creía como que estaba viendo el anime. Lo mismo me ocurre con Katara interpretada por Kiawentiio y Sokka quien le dio vida Ian Ousley. Realmente en cuanto a personajes principales, la selección fue la adecuada, ya el actor Dallas Liu hizo el papel del Príncipe Zuko y este le quedo bastante bien. La serie tiene una buena cantidad actores y actrices principales, recurrentes e invitados, cada uno hace un buen trabajo con sus personajes, aunque sabemos que uno mejores que otros. El trabajo de cast está bastante bien, aunque debo decir que no es lo mejor de la serie, ya que algunos personajes conecto bastante, me creo lo que estoy viendo y en otras no tanto.


En cuanto a la fotografía, les puedo decir que sin lugar a dudas es de lo mejor de este live action de Avatar, el último maestro aire. Los encargados de la fotografía fueron Michael Balfry, Michael Goi y Stewart Whelan, realizando un maravilloso trabajo, los lugares estaban muy bien recreados, todo muy de acuerdo al anime y es que algo a favor de la serie y de la cual los fanáticos de esta historia deben estar muy contentos, incluyendo mi persona. Otro punto fuerte de la serie es los efectos visuales, realmente son hermosos y más en una serie de fantasía, donde se usa los elementos, el fuego, el agua, el aire y la tierra como medio de defensa y ataque, realmente da gusto ver esta producción, una gran mejora con respecto al film de 2010. No podemos dejar de mencionar la música que es otro punto fuerte de la historia. Este es un reinicio de la serie animada llevada al live action, no es más que eso, todo es muy fiel, puede que cambie o se muestre cosas nuevas que no hayamos visto antes, pero en general todo es bastante similar al anime. Me fuese gustado ver cosas nuevas, pero entiendo que esto va más dirigido a un nuevo público, aquellos que no hayan visto la historia del último maestro aire. Pero bueno, lo que ya la vimos, también tenemos la oportunidad de verla nuevamente, pero muy mejorada en cuanto a lo visual, esto en comparación al anime de 2005 y la película de 2010. Sí, tendría que ponerle una puntuación, sería un 7.5, la serie no es perfecto, pero sí podemos pasar un rato agradable al verla.
