Me llaman Radio es la película de la cual les voy a hablar hoy. La misma es un filme de 2003 que fue dirigida por Michael Tollin, con una duración de una hora y nueve minutos. Esta producción fue protagonizada por Cuba Gooding, Jr. y por el actor y cineasta Ed Harris, siendo una de las razones que me la llevó ver. En esta reseña les voy a dar mi opinión de la película de acuerdo a mi experiencia personal y no una crítica profesional, ya que no soy especialista en estos temas.

Me llaman Radio es una película del género de deporte y drama, basado en hechos reales, otro punto a favor de la película, puesto que me gusta conocer este tipo de historias. ¿Cuál es la trama? Pues en secundaria de Estados Unidos, T.L. Hanna High School, tenemos a un entrenador de fútbol americano llamado Harold Jones, quien es interpretado por Ed Harris quien trata de ayudar a un chico con disparidad (lo que se conoce como retraso mental), lo cual lo hace andar por toda la localidad donde vive, pasando por la escuela ya mencionada. El joven llama la atención del entretenedor, quien lo decide ayudar de alguna manera. Realmente es una historia bastante conmovedora.

El joven con discapacidad le dicen Radio, de allí el título de la película, ya que el mismo le encanta escuchar la radio, valga de redundancia. Radio es interpretado por Cuba Gooding, Jr., por el hecho de que el personaje es afroamericano y quien mejor que darle vida a este papel que Gooding, quien lo he visto en otras películas y ha realizado un maravilloso trabajo. La trama trata principalmente la dificultad de entretenedor, ya que era de alguna manera juzgado por querer ayudar a Radio, porque podría ser un peligro para los otros jóvenes, aunque este nunca se rindió, sin importar las consecuencias que podría acarrear su decisión. Finalmente, radio tuvo un gran impacto dentro de la secundaria y la comunidad donde residía, todo gracias al entrenador Jones.

They Call Me Radio is the movie I'm going to talk about today. It is a 2003 film that was directed by Michael Tollin, with a running time of one hour and nine minutes. This production starred Cuba Gooding, Jr. and actor and filmmaker Ed Harris, being one of the reasons that made me watch it. In this review I am going to give you my opinion of the film according to my personal experience and not a professional critique, since I am not a specialist in these matters.


They call me Radio is a movie of the sports and drama genre, based on real events, another point in favor of the film, since I like to know this kind of stories. What is the plot? Well, in a high school in the United States, T.L. Hanna High School, we have a soccer coach named Harold Jones, who is played by Ed Harris who tries to help a boy with disparity (what is known as mental retardation), which makes him walk all over the town where he lives, passing by the aforementioned school. The young man catches the attention of the entertainer, who decides to help him in some way. It is really quite a touching story.


The disabled young man is called Radio, hence the title of the film, since he himself loves to listen to the radio, redundantly. Radio is played by Cuba Gooding, Jr. because the character is African American and who better to bring this role to life than Gooding, who I have seen in other films and has done a wonderful job. The plot deals mainly with the difficulty of the entertainer, since he was somehow judged for wanting to help Radio, because he could be a danger to the other young people, although he never gave up, regardless of the consequences of his decision. Ultimately, Radium made a big impact within the high school and the community where he resided, all thanks to Coach Jones.

Una de las sensaciones que me dejó la película es que James Robert "Radio", no solo era visto mal por su condición, sino que también por algo de racismo, aunque esto nunca se tocó de una manera directa dentro de la película, pero es la sensación que me quedó por lo visto. A la Radio le hacen casi la vida imposible algunos de los estudiantes, lo cual lo afecta mucho, pero con el apoyo del entrenador, este logra superar los obstáculos que se le presentaron y finalmente reconocido como lo que era realmente, un chico amable y bueno que no se metía con nadie. Jones logra entrar al salón de la fama del deporte en EE.UU, y aun así mantuvo la amistad con James Robert.

La historia no es la primera que veo de este tipo, pero lo que más me agradó es el hecho de ver que aún existen buenas personas en el mundo, sin importar las condiciones de las personas y/o el color de piel, sin tener ningún beneficio de nada, tan solo el bienestar e integración de la persona. Radio se pudo integrar de buena manera con las personas y muchos cambiaron su forma de pensar con este chico y por muchos años fue considerado como parte del equipo de la secundaria. No sé qué tan bien adaptada estuvo la historia, pero estas son las conclusiones a las que pude llegar de acuerdo a lo que vi.

La historia de Radio me parece buena, que tal vez a muchos les puede parecer aburrida, porque leí varias críticas de este tipo, pero en lo personal me gustó y me entretuve bastante el ver el filme y eso es lo importante. El desarrollo de los personajes principales me pareció bastante bueno, sobre todo de Radio y el entrenador, y esto fue gracias a la dirección de Michael Tollin y del guion creado por Mike Rich. Otro punto considerable de hablar es el reparto y es que la verdad la película contó con un buen elenco y lo más importante en destacar son los papeles de Ed Harris y Cuba Gooding, Jr. porque fueron los dos personajes con que más conecté, sobre todo el entrenador Jones. La mayor de las escenas e historia se centra en estos dos.

En lo que respecta a la fotografía (quien en este apartado Don Burgess fue el encargado) les puedo decir que los escenarios y localizaciones se ven de acuerdo a la época en que se desarrolló esta historia, porque recordar que es basada en hechos reales la película. La mayor parte de la historia se desarrolla en la escuela y en el campo de fútbol americano, y como no si la película es del género de deporte y con drama que es otro de mis géneros favoritos. La banda sonora creo que no es un apartado tan destacado, pero las composiciones que aparecen en los momentos tristes y felices está bastante bien, engancha mucho, pero siento que no es de lo más destacado del film. Por cierto, es vestuario también fue muy acorde a la época de la historia de Radio.

One of the sensations that the movie left me with is that James Robert "Radio", was not only seen badly because of his condition, but also because of some racism, although this was never touched upon in a direct way within the movie, but it is the sensation that I got from what I saw. Radio is made almost impossible by some of the students, which affects him a lot, but with the support of the coach, he manages to overcome the obstacles that were presented to him and finally recognized for what he really was, a kind and good boy who did not mess with anyone. Jones makes it into the U.S. Sports Hall of Fame, and still maintained a friendship with James Robert.


The story is not the first I've seen of this type, but what pleased me most is the fact that there are still good people in the world, regardless of the conditions of people and / or skin color, without having any benefit of anything, just the welfare and integration of the person. Radio was able to integrate in a good way with people and many changed their way of thinking with this boy and for many years he was considered as part of the high school team. I don't know how well adapted the story was, but these are the conclusions I could draw from what I saw.


The story of Radio seems good to me, which may seem boring to many, because I read several reviews of this type, but personally I liked it and I was quite entertained watching the film and that's what is important. I thought the development of the main characters was quite good, especially Radio and the trainer, and this was thanks to the direction of Michael Tollin and the script created by Mike Rich. Another important point to talk about is the cast and the truth is that the film had a good cast and the most important to highlight are the roles of Ed Harris and Cuba Gooding, Jr. because they were the two characters I connected with the most, especially Coach Jones. Most of the scenes and story are centered on these two.


Regarding the photography (who in this section Don Burgess was in charge) I can tell you that the scenery and locations look according to the time in which this story was developed, because remember that the film is based on real events. Most of the story takes place in the school and on the soccer field, and how not if the film is of the sports genre and with drama which is another of my favorite genres. The soundtrack I think is not such an outstanding section, but the compositions that appear in the sad and happy moments is pretty good, it hooks a lot, but I feel that it is not the highlight of the film. By the way, the costumes were also very appropriate to the time of Radio's story.

La película se llaman radio es una de las mejores que he visto en estos días, por lo cual decidí compartirlas con ustedes. Sí es una historia que tiene similitudes a algunas películas, pero este habla más de un chico afroamericano y más con una discapacidad mental que lo límita mucho en un principio, pero este lo logró superar e integrarse a la comunidad, siendo uno de los icono más importante de la localidad y de la escuela secundario T.L. Hanna, durando por muchos años en el equipo de fútbol americano. Una trama bien llevada y contada, un desarrollo de personajes bien llevado, un fotogría buena y una banda sonora que cumple con creces de acuerdo a la película. Una película conmovedora y que deja grandes mensajes para los expectadores, así que se las recomiendo.

The movie is called radio is one of the best I have seen these days, so I decided to share it with you. Yes it is a story that has similarities to some movies, but this one talks more about an African American boy and more with a mental disability that limits him a lot at first, but he managed to overcome it and integrate into the community, being one of the most important icon of the town and of the high school T.L. Hanna, lasting for many years in the soccer team. A plot well told, character development well handled, good cinematography and a soundtrack that more than lives up to the film. A touching film that leaves great messages for the viewers, so I recommend it.
