Review Movie: Raw (ENG-ESP)

Today I will share with you my review of a french movie a bit strong and explicit that in spite of it left me amazed in terms of plot, in the way it was filmed and in the outcome, it is a visually strong movie so if you are a bit sensitive with themes like blood and cannibalism I don't recommend it since they are some of the main themes in it. Hola amantes del cine en esta preciosa comunidad de hive, espero estén muy bien el día de hoy. El día de hoy les compartiré mi reseña de una película francesa un tanto fuerte y explícita que a pesar de ello me dejó maravillada en cuanto a trama, en la forma en la que fue grabada y en el desenlace, es una película fuerte visualmente así que si eres un poco sensible con temas como la sangre y el canibalismo pues no te la recomiendo ya que son algunos de los temas principales en ella. Let's talk a little about the plot of it, the movie introduces us to the life of Justine who is about to start her first semester in a veterinary school, where her older sister Alexia also studies and where her parents met, her whole life has been kept under control thanks to her parents and a part of this that everyone in her family is strictly vegetarian, upon arrival she realizes that she will have to go through some tests to prove that she is ready to study to be a veterinarian and one of the tests is to taste raw meat, what Justine did not know is that it will unleash changes in her that she is not sure she can handle and control while studying.

The horror and drama genre film has a cast, although I did not know them before I found them very good in terms of the performance they had in the film, some of them are: Garance Marillier who plays Justine our protagonist, Ella Rumpf in the role of Alexia Justine's sister, Laurent Lucas and Joana Preiss father and mother of the sisters and Rabah Naït Oufella who plays Adrien Justine's roommate. All these actors and actresses came together to portray these characters full of story to tell, drama and strong emotions.

Hablemos un poco sobre la trama de ella, la película nos introduce a la vida de Justine quien está a punto de empezar su primer semestre en una escuela de veterinaria, en donde estudia también su hermana mayor Alexia y en donde sus padres se conocieron, toda su vida se ha mantenido bajo control gracias a sus padres y una parte de esto que todos en su familia son estrictamente vegetarianos, al llegar se da cuenta de que deberá pasar por algunas pruebas para probar que está preparada para estudiar para ser veterinaria y una de las pruebas es probar carne cruda, lo que no sabía Justine es que se desatarán cambios en ella de los cuales no está segura de poder manejar y controlar mientras estudia.

La película de género terror y drama cuenta con un reparto, que aunque no los conociera de antes me parecieron muy buenos en cuanto a la actuación que tuvieron dentro de la película, algunos de ellos son: Garance Marillier quien interpreta a Justine nuestra protagonista, Ella Rumpf en el papel de Alexia hermana de Justine, Laurent Lucas y Joana Preiss padre y madre de las hermanas y Rabah Naït Oufella quien interpreta a Adrien compañero de cuarto de Justine. Todos estos actores y actrices se unieron para representar a estos personajes llenos de mucha historia por contar, drama y muchas emociones fuertes.

La vida de Justine cambiará completamente cuando deba probar por primera vez carne como una prueba para su iniciación en la universidad para ser veterinaria, luego de haber sido estrictamente vegetariana toda su vida debe verse obligada a probar carne cruda sin saber que esto desencadenaría una serie de emociones y un incontrolable deseo por comer carne con el cual intentará lidiar pero este se sale de sus manos.

I had this movie saved for some time and I can't remember what I saw to make me write it down to watch it later but I still had it in my list of movies to watch and one day I decided to give it a chance. The movie reminded me a lot of a movie I saw a long time ago called "Suicide Room" because of the shooting style and the strong scenes however that's what caught me to keep watching it, it has a pretty young plot about starting college and as always they put the college kids going from party to party, which were pretty funny scenes and a little scary because of all the lighting effects and the bunch of people dancing and moving around.

The story at the beginning also reminded me a bit of "Bones and All" as it gradually developed this problem of the main character eating meat and although it seems that the plot that she used to be a vegetarian and when she first tasted meat she became a cannibal may seem a bit predictable the end of the movie makes it completely make sense and makes that plot not seem so predictable after all.

Tenía guardada ésta película desde hace ya algún tiempo y no puedo recordar que fue lo que ví para que la anotara para verla luego pero aún así la tenía en mi lista de películas por ver y un día decidí darle una oportunidad. La película me recordó mucho a una película que ví hace mucho tiempo que se llama "Suicide Room" por el estilo de grabación y las escenas fuertes sin embargo eso fue lo que me atrapó para seguirla viendo, tiene una trama bastante juvenil en cuanto a iniciar la universidad y como siempre ponen lo de que los universitarios se la pasan de fiesta en fiesta, lo cual fueron unas escenas bastante divertidas y un poco tenebrosas por todos los efectos de las luces y por el montón de gente bailando y moviéndose alrededor.

La historia al principio también me recordó un poco a "Bones and All" ya que poco a poco se fue desarrollando este problema de la protagonista por comer carne y aunque parece que el argumento de que antes era vegetariana y al probar por primera vez carne se volvió caníbal puede verse un poco predecible el final de la película hace que tome completamente sentido y hace que ese argumento no parezca tan predecible después de todo.

Not only we see how Justine develops around her desperation and desire to eat human flesh but we see how her relationship with her sister is quite complicated, they show how they have moments in which they can't stand each other and sometimes it seems that between them there is not only rivalry but envy but then there are moments in which they take care of each other, they have fun and take care of each other despite all the problems, I feel it is a very intimate and real approach in some part of the way in which a sisterhood develops, two daughters who have a difference in age and tastes and personalities look for ways to coincide and share their tastes even though there are times when they fight and seem to hate each other but despite everything they love and care for each other and this is shown in the film in little things like lending each other things, caring and helping each other and even in moments of silence where that small space where they do not share any dialogue show their feelings and the way they love and appreciate each other.

I always get a little panicky watching films that are not American because you really notice the difference in the filming styles and somehow the films tend to feel more intimate and not so far removed from reality and it's something that always stands out in foreign films, that feeling of proximity and that maybe what is happening is real, however the film achieved its goal which was to instill terror in something like cannibalism which at other times as in the films of Hannibal Letter and others like Bones and All feel unreal and although they generate that feeling of anxiety and generate a little terror and disgust it remains present that it is not real but watching movies like this keeps present that sense of reality, I don't know if it's because of the way it was filmed or for another reason but watching it and finishing it left me thinking for a long time and I was very impressed by everything that happened in it.

No solamente vemos cómo se va desarrollando Justine en torno a su desespero y ganas de comer carne humana sino vemos como es su relación con su hermana la cual es bastante complicada, muestran como tienen momentos en los cuales parecen no soportarse y a veces parece también que entre ellas existe no solo rivalidad sino envidia pero luego hay momentos en los que las veces cuidarse entre ellas, se divierten y se cuidan a pesar de todos los problemas, siento que es un enfoque muy íntimo y real en cierta parte de la forma en la que se desarrolla una hermandad, dos hijas que tienen una diferencia de edades y de gustos y personalidades buscan la manera de coincidir y de poder compartir sus gustos a pesar de que hayan momentos en los que pelean y parecen odiarse pero a pesar de todo se quieren y se cuidan entre ellas y esto lo demuestran en la película en pequeñas cosas como lo son el prestarse cosas, cuidarse y ayudarse e incluso en momentos de silencio en donde ese pequeño espacio en donde no comparten ningún diálogo muestran sus sentimientos y la forma en la que se quieren y se aprecian.

Siempre me da un poco de pánico el ver películas que no son estadounidenses ya que se nota mucho la diferencia en los estilos de grabación y de alguna forma las películas tienden a sentirse más íntimas y no tan alejadas de la realidad y es algo que siempre destaca en las películas extranjeras, esa sensación de proximidad y de que quizás lo que está ocurriendo es real sin embargo la película logró su objetivo el cual era infundir terror en algo como lo es el canibalismo que en otras ocasiones como en las películas de Hannibal Letter y otras como Bones and All se sienten poco reales y aunque generan esa sensación de ansiedad y genera un poco de terror y asco se mantiene presente que no es real pero al ver películas como está se mantiene presente esa sensación de realidad, no sé si es por la forma de grabar o por por otra razón pero al verla y al terminarla me dejó pensando durante mucho tiempo y me dió mucha impresión todo lo que ocurrió en ella.

It is one of those movies that leaves you thinking for a long time and then you agree with yourself not to watch it again, it is a very graphic and visual movie, the special effects and makeup are of quality which makes everything look very realistic and makes the film feel much stronger especially in scenes of violence and blood but despite this it has a good plot and an exceptional outcome, it was a good outcome for the story of the sisters and helped to better understand the origin of all this desire and desperation to eat human flesh. Not everyone can see it and if you are a bit sensitive with graphic scenes of blood I do not recommend it as it has many very explicit scenes, I even read that when it was screened at a film festival for the first time some people fainted because it is quite explicit. Even so, I found the film incredible and maybe I will give more chances to foreign films since I found this one both extraordinary and incredible as well as terrifying and distressing.

Es una de esas películas que te deja pensando por un largo rato y luego acuerdas contigo mismo no volver a verla, es una película muy gráfica y visual, los efectos especiales y el maquillaje son de calidad lo que hace que todo se vea muy realista y hace que la película se sienta mucho más fuerte sobre todo en escenas de violencia y de sangre pero a pesar de ello tiene una buena trama y un desenlace excepcional, fue un buen desenlace para la historia de las hermanas y que ayudó a comprender mejor el origen de todo éste deseo y desespero por comer carne humana. No todo el mundo puede verla y si eres un poco sensible con escenas gráficas de sangre no te la recomiendo ya que tiene muchas escenas muy explícitas, leí incluso que al proyectarla en un festival de cine por primera vez algunas personas se desmayaron por eso mismo de que es bastante explícita. Aún así, la película me pareció increíble y quizás le de más oportunidades a las películas extranjeras ya que ésta me pareció tanto extraordinaria e increíble como terrorífica y angustiante.
