Back In Action - My Opinion [También en Español]

Finally, Cameron Díaz is back, and instead of making a grand return, she did so in a rather low-key way with Back In Action.
The movie begins a few years ago to help us understand the present. A pair of CIA agents, who are not only mission partners but also share a relationship beyond work, decide to start a family and leave their dangerous activities behind. However, their past doesn’t let them rest, and it eventually catches up with them.
Without giving away any spoilers, I’ll tell you that just a few minutes into the movie, there’s a fight inside an airplane, and during that scene, someone shoots the pilot. Why is it that in every spy movie with a flying plane, they always shoot the pilot? That fight reminded me of the movie with Tom Cruise and none other than Cameron Díaz herself, Knight and Day, except the one I just watched is much worse.
Indeed, I found the movie to be more of the same stuff we’ve been seeing for the past 20 years, with humor that doesn’t land and scenes that don’t surprise. The only thing I can say is that I did see some chemistry between the lead actors. It’s not the first time they’ve worked together.
I don’t know what’s going on with Netflix. The last few things I’ve seen from their lineup haven’t impressed me. If Back In Action had been released in theaters, I’m sure it would have been a box office disaster.
The only significant thing about this movie is Cameron Díaz’s return, which was the reason I decided to watch it, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. Gone is the slim, stylish dancer from The Mask, There’s Something About Mary, The Hardest Decision, Charlie’s Angels, and more—she’s the same, but with a few more years and wrinkles. She didn’t bring anything new to the table.
The film also starred Jamie Foxx, who is also a producer, but this actor, who has given us great performances in the past, didn’t shine as he should have this time around.
In the cast, I recognized Kyle Chandler and Glenn Close in simple roles. The director, Seth Gordon, is perhaps the most budget-friendly option they could find; from what I know, he’s not very good with big-budget films. A reminder: Baywatch was one of the worst.
Another detail that didn’t captivate me was the music. I felt it lacked punch, especially during the more intense action scenes.
Definitely, and unfortunately, in my opinion, the movie is a mess, and I wouldn’t give it a score higher than 2 out of 10.

Por fin regresó Cameron Díaz y, en vez de hacerlo por todo lo alto, lo hizo por todo lo bajo en Back In Action.
La película comienza unos años atrás para que podamos entender el presente. Un par de agentes de la CIA, que además de ser compañeros de misión mantienen una relación más allá del trabajo, deciden formar una familia y dejar sus actividades peligrosas. Sin embargo, su pasado no los deja en paz y termina alcanzándolos.
Sin querer hacer espóiler, les cuento que, a los pocos minutos de haber comenzado la película, hay una pelea en el interior de un avión y en esa escena le disparan al piloto. ¿Por qué será que en todas las películas de espías en las que hay un avión volando siempre le disparan al piloto? La pelea me recordó a la película de Tom Cruise y la mismísima Cameron Díaz, "Knight and Day", solo que la que acabo de ver es mucho peor.
En efecto, la película me pareció más de lo mismo que hemos visto desde hace 20 años, con un humor que no funciona, con escenas que no sorprenden. Lo único que tal vez pudiese decir es que sí le vi química a los protagonistas. No es la primera vez que trabajan juntos.
No sé qué le está pasando a Netflix. Lo último que he visto de su parrilla no me ha impactado. Si "Back In Action" la hubiesen lanzado para la pantalla grande, seguro que el fracaso en taquilla sería enorme.
Lo único trascendental es el regreso de Cameron Díaz, y fue la razón por la que me motivé a verla, pero fue una gran decepción. De aquella flaca estilizada y bailarina de la Máscara, Locos por Mary, La decisión más difícil, Los Ángeles de Charlie y más, quedó la misma, pero con unos cuantos años y arrugas encima. No nos trajo algo nuevo.
La cinta también es protagonizada por Jamie Foxx, quien además es productor, pero este actor que nos ha regalado buenos trabajos en el pasado, en esta ocasión no brilló como debería.
En el elenco identifiqué a Kyle Chandler y a Glenn Close con papeles simples. El director, Seth Gordon, es tal vez lo más económico que pudieron encontrar; por lo que sé, él no es muy bueno en películas de alta facturación. Un recordatorio: Baywatch, fue de lo peor.
Otro detalle que no me cautivo fue la música. Me pareció que le faltó fuerza, sobre todo en donde la acción era más intensa.
En definitiva y lamentablemente, en mi opinión, la película es un asco y no le doy una puntuación mayor a 2 de 10.
