Texas and California, rebel allied states (HAHAHA 😁) that fight against the central government of the USA. This seems to be the plot of the new film by Alex Garland, at least from what we can gather from the trailer published on Youtube.

Alex Garland, the screenwriter and director of this upcoming film set to release in April 2024, became famous for writing the book and later the screenplay for the film "The Beach," starring Leonardo DiCaprio. In the following years, he specialized in apocalyptic and science fiction stories with films like 28 Days Later (2002), Sunshine (2007), Ex Machina (2014), his directorial debut, and Annihilation (2018).

In an interview, Garland stated that the events of the film, depicting a real civil war in the United States, take place in the near future. The story was inspired by the intense climate of division that has developed in the USA in recent years.

From Donald Trump's elections to the pandemic, from Black Lives Matter to the "assault" on Capitolo Hill on January 6, 2021, we can undoubtedly say that the climate in the USA is very divisive, full of tensions, highly politicized, and ideologized. It's not difficult to understand what Garland is alluding to with this film.

But like any Hollywood film, there's always some ridiculous reference meant to reassure the viewer that what they're watching is just fiction: the idea that California, a Democratic and Hippie state, allies with Texas, a traditional Republican state, seems so absurd that it's evident it's done on purpose to add a degree of fantastical narrative to what could become a film providing a precise political commentary on real events we are experiencing today.

From the trailer, it appears that the two protagonists, played by Kirsten Dunst and Wagner Moura, are journalists bravely and accurately documenting the ongoing civil war as they traverse the country. This contrasts with today's mainstream media and journalists who have become useless waiters for the dominant power, continuously repeating its narrative without ever confronting the reality of the facts.

But, in the end, I believe it will be an interesting film. I am curious to see how Garland has approached this hot topic, even though, looking at the trailer, I think I already have an idea about it.

Texas e California stati alleati (AHAHAHAH 😁) che si ribellano contro il governo centrale degli USA, questa sembra essere la trama del nuovo film di Alex Garland, almeno da quanto riusciamo a capire dal Trailer pubblicato su Youtube.

Alex Garland, sceneggiatore e regista di questo nuovo film in uscita verso Aprile 2024, è diventato famosissimo per la scrittura del libro ,e poi della sceneggiatura, del film "The Beach", con Leonardo di Caprio, negli anni successivi si è specializzato nelle storia apocalittiche e di fantascienza, con film come 28 Days Later (2002), Sunshine (2007), Ex Machina (2014) , primo film da regista, e poi Annihilation (2018).

In un'intervista, Garland ha affermato che le vicende del film, che parlano di una vera e propria guerra civile negli Stati uniti, si svolgono, nella trama, in un futuro vicino e la storia ha preso spunto dal forte clima di contrasto che si è creato negli USA negli ultimi anni.

Dalle elezioni di Donald Trump alla Pandemia, da Black Lives Matter all'"assalto" del Campidoglio del 6 gennaio 2021, possiamo dire , senza dubbio, che il clima negli USA è molto divisivo, pieno di tensioni, molto politicizzato e ideologizzato, e non è difficile capire a cosa stia alludendo Garland con questo film.

Ma come ogni film di Hollywood, c'è sempre qualche riferimento ridicolo, che vuole riassicurare lo spettatore che quello che sta guardando è solo finzione: che la California, stato democratico e Hippie, si allei con il Texas, stato tradizionale e repubblicano, sembra talmente folle che è palese che sia fatto apposta per dare un grado di narrazione fantastica, a quello che rischia di diventare un film che fa un commentario politico preciso dei fatti reali che stiamo vivendo nei nostri giorni.

Sempre dal trailer, sembra che i due protagonisti, interpretati da Kirsten Dunst e Wagner Moura, siano giornalisti che attraversano il paese e documentano in maniera coraggiosa e puntuale la guerra civile in atto: l'opposto di quello che fanno i media e giornalisti Main Stream di oggi, che sono diventati inutili camerieri del potere dominante, di cui ripetono la narrazione in continuazione, senza mai confrontarsi con la realtà dei fatti.

Ma , ala fine, credo che sarà un film interessante, sono curioso di vedere come Garland ha affrontato questo tema caldo, anche se, guardando il trailer, credo di essermi già fatto un'idea a riguardo.
