I confess that I considered not writing this post, since I have already seen at least two with the same theme in this community. But then I thought it was important to follow up on the previous posts I have made announcing the new TV series. It seems to me a show of respect to the community and to those who read and/or voted on my previous posts.
Indeed, on February 27th, the first two episodes of the new television series adapted from James Clavel's novel were released. As you know, I am an admirer of that work and I felt very interested when the publication of a new version was announced. Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the available episodes until yesterday afternoon.
My impressions...
The series did not disappoint and in my opinion, it faithfully portrays the literary work. I recently read in the excellent publication of @danielcarrerag that the TV series in question is being compared to Game of Thrones (GoT). The truth is that the comparison seems accurate to me, but without detracting from GoT (I am also a fan of GoT, excluding the last season), I believe that Shogun has even more merit as it has to deal with real historical and cultural factors to which it must adhere. And that is something that it achieves excellently.
Although I must admit that, although at this point this adaptation also does not include inner character dialogues, they have managed to better show the complexities of medieval politics and the depth of the characters involved. For this, they have resorted to dialogues between close characters, but I feel that this resource will not be enough to show all the depth of the characters without violating a key element of the work, which is the need to safeguard political or personal strategies at all costs as the only defense against a more than probable betrayal in the setting where the series unfolds. Of course, there is still much dramatic development in the series, so it is too early to venture opinions.
So far, all the characters are masterfully constructed. Special mention for the work of Hiroyuki Sanada as Yoshii Toranaga. There is still much to develop in that character, but the interpretation so far seems impeccable. I recommend paying special attention to Toda Mariko Sama, she is in my opinion one of the most complex and interesting characters in the work, with great internal contradictions and more to come.
"It is said that every man has three hearts, one in his mouth, for everyone to know, another in his chest, only for his friends, and a secret heart buried deeply where no one can find it. This heart must remain hidden if one wants to survive."
This phrase included at the end of the first chapter of the series in the voice of pilot Rodríguez particularly pleased me to find, it comes directly from the novel and the reason I liked finding it is because I think it encapsulates very well the overall atmosphere of the work.
It is necessary to bear in mind that the novel, and apparently the series are very faithful, do not idealize the samurai culture at all, so we will encounter scenes and situations that will seem abhorrent, strange, or incomprehensible to us, possibly all at once. But if we understand it as a representation of a different culture and look through those details, we will encounter an extremely complex and deep work. I challenge you to try to anticipate the objectives and intentions of the main characters, if you do so, you will suddenly find yourself involved in an extremely interesting psychological puzzle that will make you enjoy and appreciate the TV series much better.
I just have to say goodbye and recommend that you watch and enjoy it.

Confieso que consideré no escribir este post, dado que ya he visto al menos dos con la misma temática en esta comunidad. Pero luego pensé que era importante darle seguimiento a las publicaciones previas que he hecho anunciando la nueva serie de TV. Se me hace una muestra de respeto a la comunidad y a los que leyeron y/o votaron mis publicaciones previas.
En efecto el pasado 27 de febrero se lanzaron los dos primeros capítulos de la nueva teleserie que adapta la novela de James Clavel, como saben soy admirador de esa obra y me sentí muy interesado cuando se anunció la publicación de una nueva versión. Desgraciadamente no se me hizo posible ver los capítulos disponibles hasta ayer en la tarde.
Mis impresiones...
La serie no defraudó y, en mi criterio, retrata con gran fidelidad la obra literaria. Recientemente leí en la excelente publicación de @danielcarrerag que la teleserie que nos ocupa está siendo comparada con Juego de Tronos (GoT). La verdad es que la comparación me parece acertada, pero sin demeritar en nada a GoT (yo también soy fánatico de GoT, descontando la última temporada) creo que Shogun tienen aún más mérito pues tine que lidiar con factores históricos y culturales reales a los que debe apegarse. Eso es algo que logra de una manera excelente.
Aunque debo reconocer que aunque hasta el momento esta adaptación tampoco incluye diálogos interiores de personajes, han logrado mucho mejor mostrar las complejidades de la política medieval y la profundidad de los parsonajes involucrados. Para esto han recurrido al recurso de diálogos entre personajes cercanos, pero siento que este recurso no será suficiente para mostrar toda la profundidad de los parsonajes sin violentar un elemento clave de la obra, que es la necesidad de salvaguardar a toda costa las estrategias políticas o personales como única defensa ante una traición más que probable en el entorno en el que discurre la serie. Claro que falta aún mucho desarrollo drámatico en la serie de modo que es temprano para aventurar criterios.
Hasta el momento todos los personajes están magistralmente contruidos. Mención especial para el trabajo de Hiroyuki Sanada como Yoshii Toranaga. Falta aún mucho por desarrollar en ese personaje, pero la interpretación hasta el momento me parece impecable. Recomiendo especial atención a Toda Mariko Sama, es en mi opinión uno de los personajes más complejos e interesantes de la obra, con grandes contradicciones internas y algunas más por llegar.
"se dice que cada hombre tiene tres corazones, uno en la boca, para que todo el mundo lo conozca, otro en el pecho, solo para sus amigos y un corazón secreto enterrado profundamente donde nadie pueda encontrarlo. Este corazón debe permanecer escondido si se quiere sobrevivir"
Esta frase incluida al finalizar el primer capítulo de la serie en voz del piloto Rodríguez me agradó particularmente encontrarla, provienen directamente de la novela y la razón por la que me agradó encontrarla es porque creo que sintetiza muy bien el clima general de la obra.
Es necesario tener en cuenta que la novela, y al parecer la serie es muy fiel, no idealiza para nada la cultura de los samurais, de modo que nos vamos a encontrar con escenas y situaciones que nos pareceran aborrecibles, raras o incomprensibles, posiblemente todo a la vez. Pero si lo entendemos como representación de una cultura diferente y miramos a través de esos detalles nos vamos a entrar una obra extremadamente compleja y profunda. Los reto a que traten de adelantar los objetivos e intenciones de los parsonajes principales, si lo hacen se encontrarán envueltos de pronto en una especie de puzzle psicológico extremadamente interesante que los hará disfrutar y apreciar la teleserie mucho mejor.
