I am with you again in this 2024 to review a classic film of 1975, winner of five Oscars, called "one flew over the cuckoo`s nest" or "trapped with no way out" as we knew it in Venezuela.

Estoy nuevamente con ustedes en este 2024 para hacerles la reseña de un clásico del cine del año 1975, ganadora de cinco premios Oscar, llamado " one flew over the cuckoo`s nest" o "atrapado sin salida" como la conocimos en Venezuela.

The plot / la trama

For the year 1975 when this film was released, I was not of age, so I could not see it, but I heard the comments of my older sister who was at the premiere of the film in Venezuela and it caught my attention. However, it took me several years to enjoy this famous work of the big screen, until recently I saw it again online and for that reason I decided to review it.

Jack Nicholson plays Randolph McMurphy, a criminal who, to escape from prison, pretends to be insane to be sent to the asylum, where he feels confident of getting out soon, but there he gets Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher), who is used to dealing with mentally ill of all kinds and complicates his escape plans.

In the film we find well-known actors such as Danny Devito and Michael Berryman and Christopher Lloyd.

Para el año 1975 fecha en que se estrenó esta película, yo no era mayor de edad, por lo tanto no pude verla, pero escuché los comentarios de mi hermana mayor que si estuvo en el estreno del film en Venezuela y me llamó la atención. Sin embargo, transcurrieron varios años para poder disfrutar de esta famosa obra de la gran pantalla, hasta hace poco que volví a verla vía online y por esa razón me animé a reseñarla.

It is a film widely recommended for the human quality that it highlights and that exposes the reality that is lived in many psychiatric hospitals around the world.

Normally these care centers for people with mental illness are created to help the patient to overcome their crises and try to make them live a peaceful life. But the reality is very different; in most of these centers, in order to maintain discipline, they subject patients to confinement and humiliation that no one knows about.

I remember once I visited a psychiatric center and when we got out of the car in the parking lot we were greeted by a nice and very friendly guy who took us to the director's office.

It caught my attention that the boy was carrying a lot of pens in his shirt pocket, too many I would say. And it was when the director told me that the boy was one of the patients of the center that I understood the reason for such an attitude.

Es una película ampliamente recomendada por la calidad humana que resalta y que desnuda la realidad que se vive en muchos hospitales psiquiátricos de todo el mundo.
Normalmente estos centros de atención para personas con enfermedades mentales están creados para ayudar al paciente a superar sus crisis y tratar de hacerlos vivir una vida tranquila. Pero la realidad es muy diferente; en la mayoría de estos centros para mantener la disciplina, someten a los pacientes a encierros y vejaciones de los que nadie se entera.
Recuerdo que una vez visité un centro psiquiátrico y al bajar del carro en el estacionamiento fuimos recibidos por un muchacho simpático y muy amable que nos condujo a la oficina del director.
Me llamó la atención que el chico llevaba muchos lapiceros en el bolsillo de su camisa, en exceso diría yo. Y fue cuando el director me dijo que el muchacho era uno de los pacientes del centro, que comprendí la razón de tal actitud.

In that same visit I could see that some patients are locked up without clothes and in unsanitary conditions, despite the fact that the directors only walk the visitors where they want and do not show the true reality of this center.

Returning to the film, some people may find it slow and boring because it does not have many action scenes, but what happens there is a drama that can occur in any mental health center played by actors such as Nicholson and Fletcher.

The scenes look very real and the performances convey the pain, sadness and joys that these people, forgotten by society live day by day in this place.

En esa misma visita pude ver que a algunos pacientes los tienen encerrados sin ropa y en condiciones insalubres, esto a pesar que los directivos solo pasean a los visitantes por donde ellos quieren y no muestran la verdadera realidad de este centro.
Volviendo a la película, a algunas personas puede parecerle lenta y aburrida porque no tiene muchas escenas de acción, pero lo que allí se vive es un drama que puede ocurrir en cualquier centro de salud mental interpretado por actores de plana mayor como lo es Nicholson y Fletcher.
Las escenas se ven muy reales y las actuaciones transmiten el dolor, la tristeza y las alegrías que estas personas, olvidadas por la sociedad viven día a día en este lugar.

This film is based on a novel written by Ken Kesey in 1962 and the title comes from a phrase of a children's song. When it speaks of the cuckoo's nest it refers to the insane asylum, because the term cuckoo is used to designate a mentally ill person.

In conclusion/ Para concluir

It is an excellent film that immerses us in the drama of the life of the mentally ill inside a psychiatric center and gives us an idea of the treatment they receive there.

Winner of five academy awards: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay and Best Director. So needless to say, if you haven't seen it, don't miss it.

Es una excelente película que nos sumerge en el drama de la vida de los enfermos mentales dentro de un centro psiquiátrico y que nos permite tener una idea del trato que allí reciben.
