The plot / La trama

The plot of this film is based on real events that took place in Africa. An engineer named John Henry Patterson (Val Kilmer) is hired to manage the construction of a bridge in Africa, but corpses of African workers torn to pieces by wild beasts begin to appear, which causes delays in the construction work and Patterson is forced to face, along with an experienced lion hunter Charles Remington (Michael Douglas) the mysterious killers of the jungle.

An excellent film for those who love action and suspense, with good performances by the characters of Kilmer and Douglas and developed in beautiful exteriors with jungle landscapes and indigenous civilizations.

The way the story is approached helps to create that atmosphere of uncertainty that ties the viewer to his chair waiting for the final outcome. It begins with slow scenes and the suspense grows as the film progresses and little by little the mystery of the horrible deaths of the African natives is unveiled.

For the filming, several lions were made as props but with a really amazing finish in terms of realism and ferocity. The bad thing was that they exaggerated the bloodlust and killer instinct of the lions, to such an extent that they look like indestructible monsters. Of course, this is understandable, because to give the film greater intensity, they needed ruthless and bloodthirsty animals with a terrifying look.

But the performances of the protagonists and the suspense of the film make these details are forgotten.

Una excelente película para los que amamos la acción y el suspenso, con buenas actuaciones de los personajes de Kilmer y Douglas y desarrollada en hermosos exteriores con paisajes de selva y civilizaciones indígenas.
La forma de abordar la historia ayuda a crear ese ambiente de incertidumbre que ata al espectador a su silla esperando el desenlace final. Comienza con escenas lentas y va creciendo el suspenso a medida que avanza el film y poco a poco se va develando el misterio de las horribles muertes de los nativos africanos.
Para la filmación se fabricaron varios leones de utilería pero con un acabado realmente sorprendente en cuanto a realismo y ferocidad. Lo malo fue que exageraron la sed de sangre e instinto asesino de los leones, a tal punto que parecen monstruos indestructibles. Claro, se entiende pues para darle mayor intensidad a la película, se requería de animales despiadados y sanguinarios y con una mirada aterrorizante.
Pero las actuaciones de los protagonistas y el suspenso que se vive en la película hacen que esos detalles queden en el olvido.

The first time I saw the film, I thought it was just another jungle hunting story, but once I got into the plot, I didn't even dare to get up from my chair so as not to lose detail of the events. It is a story well told and fully lived by the characters who took their roles very seriously.

The cast that complements the characters is made up of extras who act as indigenous Africans that give the story greater realism and veracity.

La primera vez que vi la película, pensé que se trataba de otra historia de cacería en la selva, pero luego de meterme en la trama, ya no me atrevía ni a levantarme de la silla para no perder detalle de los acontecimientos. Es una historia bien contada y vivida de lleno por los personajes que se tomaron su papel muy en serio.
El elenco que complementa los personajes está integrado por extras que actúan como indígenas africanos que le dan a la historia mayor realismo y veracidad.

Highly recommended to spend an entertaining time and enjoy the excellent scenes of hunting and melee between men and beasts.
It also contains a positive message regarding the fulfillment of our goals. Patterson had a task: to finish the bridge he had started, but he had to suspend his engineering work to first solve the most urgent thing: to finish the man-eating killers, who were chasing away the workers for fear of being eaten. This teaches us that in our lives we will always have distracting events that divert us from our objectives, but if we keep our eyes fixed on what we want to achieve and are persevering, nothing can prevent us from reaching our goal, not even a pair of killer lions!

Super recomendada para pasar un rato entretenido y disfrutar de las excelentes escenas de cacería y lucha cuerpo a cuerpo entre hombres y fieras.
También encierra un mensaje positivo en cuanto al cumplimiento de nuestras metas. Patterson tenia una encomienda: terminar el puente que había iniciado, pero tuvo que suspender su trabajo de ingeniería para solucionar primero lo más urgente: acabar con los asesinos come hombres, que le estaban ahuyentando los trabajadores por temor a ser devorados. Eso nos enseña que en nuestra vida siempre vamos a conseguir eventos distractores que nos desvían de nuestros objetivos, pero si tenemos la mirada fija en lo que queremos obtener y somos perseverantes, nada podrá impedir que lleguemos a la meta. ¡Ni siquiera un par de leones asesinos!
