Today I want to share with you my experiences watching for the second time the movie titled "Whiplash", whose title in Spanish is "música y obsesión".

Hoy quiero compartirles mis experiencias al ver por segunda vez la película titulada "Whiplash", cuyo título en español es "música y obsesión".

The plot / La trama

Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller) is a young music student, specializing in percussion (drums) who has great aspirations to become the best jazz drummer. However, he must pass the tough test of passing the course taught by instructor Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons) who has an unusual teaching method, characterized by frightening and ridiculing students who make mistakes. Fletcher quickly pushes Andrew to the limits of his ability to the point of almost losing his sanity, but Andrew refuses to give up and becomes obsessed with seeing it through to the end.

Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller) es un joven estudiante de música, en la especialidad de percusión (batería) que tiene grandes aspiraciones de llegar a ser el mejor baterista de jazz. Sin embargo, debe pasar la dura prueba de aprobar el curso que dicta el instructor Terence Fletcher (J.K.Simmons) que tiene un método de enseñanza fuera de lo común, caracterizado por atemorizar y ridiculizar a los estudiantes que cometen errores. My opinion / Mi opinión

With a simple plot and few variations, the story of this young man in love with music, who seeks excellence above all else, unfolds.

In my opinion, it is an entertaining film that teaches us several things.

First of all, it shows Andrew's perseverance, despite being subject to Fletcher's rudimentary teaching methods, he wants to prove that he is capable of rising in music.

This teacher epitomizes many other teachers I have known in my student life. They apply psychological terror so that the student learns not to make mistakes because for them, perfection is the rule.

With the application of this teaching method, what is achieved is desertion or perfection. A student who passes the test will surely be well prepared to move up to the next level.

Con una trama sencilla y con pocas variantes se desarrolla la historia de este joven enamorado de la música, que busca por sobre todas las cosas la excelencia.
Es en mi opinión una entretenida película que nos enseña varias cosas.
En primer lugar, muestra la perseverancia de Andrew, a pesar de estar sujeto a los rudimentarios métodos de enseñanza de Fletcher, el quiere demostrar que sí está capacitado para surgir dentro de la música.
Este profesor personaliza a muchos otros profesores que he conocido en mi vida de estudiante. Aplican el terror psicológico para que el estudiante aprenda a no cometer errores porque para ellos, la perfección es la regla.
Con la aplicación de este método de enseñanza, lo que se logra es la deserción o la perfección. Un estudiante que pase la prueba, de seguro estará bien preparado para subir al próximo nivel.

Secondly, the other side of the coin, it is worth analyzing the teaching method applied by Fletcher.

This way of teaching reminds me of my grandmother's stories when she told us that the teachers of her time were highly respected by their students because they used corporal punishment as a corrective method.

They used the so-called "palmeta" a kind of wooden paddle with several holes in the center that they used to hit the boy's open hand every time he made a mistake.

Did they achieve their goal? Yes, the boys learned or learned and in addition to respect for their teacher they added a dose of hatred and terror just by pronouncing his last name.

En segundo lugar, la otra cara de la moneda, vale la pena analizar el método de enseñanza que aplica Fletcher.
Esta forma de enseñar me recuerda los cuentos de la abuela cuando nos decía que los maestros de su época eran muy respetados por sus alumnos porque utilizaban el castigo corporal como método correctivo.
Usaban la llamada "palmeta" una especie de paleta de madera con varios orificios en el centro que utilizaban para dar golpes en la mano abierta del muchacho cada vez que se equivocaba.
¿Lograban su objetivo? Pues sí, los muchachos aprendían o aprendían y además de respeto a su profesor le añadían una dosis de odio y terror al solo pronunciar su apellido.

Currently these teaching methods are not allowed because they are a form of mistreatment of the student and the laws punish the educator who uses this violent way of making himself understood. In addition, the current generation does not tolerate this type of discrimination because they are accustomed since childhood to receive a treatment appropriate to their age and protest if someone tries to alter this circumstance.

Actualmente esos métodos de enseñanza no están permitidos porque son una forma de maltrato al estudiante y las leyes castigan a aquel educador que utiliza esta forma violenta de hacerse entender. Además la generación actual no tolera este tipo de discriminación ya que están acostumbrados desde la infancia a recibir un trato adecuado a su edad y protestan si alguien trata de alterar esa circunstancia.

In conclusion / En conclusión

I thought it was a good movie that leaves a positive message to young people who want to emerge and fulfill their goals despite the inconveniences that come their way.

Simmons' performance was very convincing and that gives a lot of realism to the story. The young Teller also did an acceptable job, especially in the difficult scenes with a lot of emotion and anguish.

A very current story that could be the story of one of our children or a close relative, presented and told in a simple way and without many embellishments.

Me pareció una buena película que deja un mensaje positivo a la juventud que quiere surgir y cumplir sus metas trazadas a pesar de los inconvenientes que se les presenten en el camino.
La actuación de Simmons fue muy convincente y eso le da mucho realismo a la historia. El joven Teller también hizo un trabajo aceptable, sobretodo en las escenas difíciles de mucha emotividad y angustia.
Una historia muy actual que puede ser la historia de uno de nuestros hijos o de algún familiar cercano, presentada y contada de una manera sencilla y sin muchos adornos.
