Carl Weathers is dead / Carl Weathers nie żyje

A few days ago, Carl Weathers passed away from our world. He's not a famous actor these days, outside of my generation and those older than me, but he doesn't have to be. His name has already gone down in cinematic history thanks to Rocky I-IV and Predator. Thanks to the latter, he was even immortalized in memes - the most famous bro' handshake was him and the Terminator. As a child, when I watched television addictively and knew the programs of several stations almost by heart, I saw Carl on the screen more than once. Back then, he was one of the few actors I liked watching. Although I liked watching TV, I was a typical casual viewer - I didn't pay attention to directors, movie names or actors' names. I just watched. This changed after watching The Man Without a Face, directed by Mel Gibson. I don't remember how old I was then, if I remember correctly I was 11 or 13. I watched it every day and was amazed by it. Just like Carl's role in the first Rocky movie.

To be honest, I preferred him to Sly at the time. As my friend David said, Apollo Creed was the embodiment of the American Dream. A man who defined his goal and worked hard for his success. Not only in the craft of acting, but also in the gym. I don't know if you know, but on the set of Predator, he and Arnie competed with each other to see who could get to the gym faster and have bigger biceps. It's hard to find a better recommendation in this matter. If it weren't for him, Rocky might not be as iconic and important a title for athletes today as Dragon Ball (though not only that, both titles are still good motivators to work on yourself). If it weren't for him, perhaps today we wouldn't have one of the most iconic songs in history - Eye of the Tiger. If it weren't for him, the rivalry between him and Sylvester in parts 1 and 2 wouldn't have been so great!!! Ok, maybe another actor would have done the job, but it would be difficult to find a suitable sequel for him. There was great chemistry between Creed and Rocky, they complemented each other nicely - Apollo was more technical, like Vegeta from DB, and Rock... Well, I can't compare him to Goku, he had other features that went well with controlled aggression and arrogance, a huge ego and testosterone overload. It's true that in The Mandalorian he played almost like DeNiro in cheap films (i.e. below his average level), but it wasn't that striking + actually... Carl Weathers was and still is at such a level that he doesn't have to do anything anymore prove or gain. He showed that he is great. The guy IS a friend of Arnold and Stallone. I, and many kids from my generation around the world, would love to be in his shoes.

The most important thing is that he passed away in his sleep. Peacefully and without pain.

Kilka dni temu z naszego świata odszedł Carl Weathers. Obecnie nie jest to znany aktor, poza moim pokoleniem i starszymi ode mnie, ale nie musi nim być. Jego nazwisko już się zapisało w historii kinematografii dzięki Rocky I-IV oraz Predator. Dzięki temu drugiemu został nawet uwieczniony na memach - najsłynniejszy bro' handshake to on i Terminator. Jako dziecko, gdy nałogowo oglądałem telewizję i znałem program kilku stacji niemal na pamięć, widziałem nie raz Carla na ekranie. Wtedy był to jeden z nielicznych aktorów, których lubiłem oglądać. Choć lubiłem oglądać TV, to byłem typowym casualowym widzem - nie zwracałem uwagi na reżyserów, nazwy filmów, czy nazwiska aktorów. Po prostu oglądałem. Zmieniło się to wraz z obejrzeniem The Man Without a Face w reżyserii Mela Gibsona. Nie pamiętam, ile miałem wtedy lat, jeśli dobrze mi się wydaje, to miałem 11 lub 13 lat. Oglądałem go codziennie i byłem nim zachwycony. Tak samo jak rolą Carla w pierwszej części Rocky'ego.

Szczerze powiedziawszy, wtedy wolałem go od Sly'a. Jak to powiedział mój kumpel Dawid, Apollo Creed był takim ucieleśnieniem American Dream. Człowieka który zdefiniował swój cel i ciężko zapierdalał na swój sukces. Nie tylko w aktorskim rzemiośle, ale też na siłowni. Nie wiem, czy wiecie, ale na planie zdjęciowym Predatora, on i Arnie rywalizowali między sobą, kto szybciej przyjdzie na siłownię i będzie miał większy biceps. Trudno o lepszą rekomendację w tej materii. Gdyby nie on, Rocky być może nie byłby dzisiaj równie kultowym i ważnym tytułem dla sportowców, jak Dragon Ball (choć w sumie nie tylko, oba tytuły nadal są dobrymi motywatorami do pracy nad sobą). Gdyby nie on, być może dzisiaj nie mielibyśmy jednego z najbardziej kultowych utworów w historii - Eye of the Tiger. Gdyby nie on, to rywalizacja między nim a Sylvestrem w 1 i 2 części nie byłaby taka doskonała!!! Ok, może inny aktor spełniłby swoje zadanie, ale trudno byłoby znaleźć odpowiednie następstwo dla niego. Między Creedem a Rockym była świetna chemia, fajnie się też uzupełniali - Apollo był bardziej techniczny, jak Vegeta z DB, a Rock... No do Goku go porównać nie mogę, miał inne cechy które fajnie się komponowały z kontrolowaną agresją i arogancją, olbrzymim ego i przeładowaniem testosteronem. Co prawda w The Mandalorian grał niemal jak DeNiro w tanich filmach (czyli poniżej swojego przeciętnego poziomu), ale to nie uderzało aż tak po oczach + w sumie... Carl Weathers był i nadal jest na takim poziomie, że on już nic nie musi udowadniać ani zdobywać. Pokazał że jest Wielki. Facet JEST przyjacielem Arnolda i Stallone'a. Ja i mnóstwo dzieciaków z mojego pokolenia na całym świecie, chciałoby być na jego miejscu.

Najważniejsze, że odszedł we śnie. W spokoju i bez bólu.
