I think the world we live in today, "do you mean the world before Covid, by the way, or the world after Covid?", just isn't a fun world to live in anymore. There is murder and manslaughter everywhere.
There are things that happen in reality where you feel like it could 'be right out of a movie'. Things we couldn't imagine... A movie is a way of escaping reality for many people. So I guess the movie world has some kind of reaction to real life. Life is getting harder and harder, so script writers react to this in a certain way.
Horror is becoming more and more extreme, Thrillers are increasingly being turned into psychological thrillers, and you can see that many script writers hark back to a fantasy world, to still give viewers the opportunity to escape reality, which is weird enough these days without having to have to put in a lot of effort.
Interesting take. I mean I'm not entirely sure if I agree with all that. Sure, there is a reaction to real life but that arts are being Politically stifled by PC culture. I mean there are some things that you just can't do to a woman role for example. I read that you couldn't make a woman more inferior to a man. Which is silly - how does she grow then?
At some point we are all inferior, and then we grow as people to become a little bit superior.
