The movie tells the true story of Walter McMillian, who with the help of young defense attorney Bryan Stevenson appeals his murder conviction. The movie is also based on the memoir of the same name, written by Bryan Stevenson.

In 'Just Mercy,' Bryan Stevenson, a Christian and graduate of both Eastern University and Harvard law school, is set out on a journey of hope to bring a change in the justice system by focusing on the most disadvantaged persons and those whose situation seems quite hopeless. He was inspired by an internship at Harvard where he worked on death row cases, he moves from his family home in Delaware to Alabama in regards to his journey to right the wrongs of injustice to most prisoners who were in prison for nothing.

So apparently, Walter "Johnny D." McMillian was an African-American pulpwood worker from Monroeville, Alabama, who was wrongfully convicted of murder and sentenced to death. His conviction was wrongfully obtained, based on police coercion and perjury; in the 1988 trial, under a controversial doctrine unique to Alabama called "judge override", the judge imposed the death penalty, even though the jury imposed a sentence of life imprisonment. After the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals turned down four appeals in three years from 1990 to 1993 ,in the third year in 1993, after McMillian had served six years on Alabama's death row, the Court of Criminal Appeals reversed the lower court decision and ruled that he had been wrongfully convicted. the judge dismisses the charges of murder, and McMillian is finally released from prison and reunited with his family.

Just Mercy is a movie that emphasizes social justice, it points out the variety of flaws of a criminal justice system whose eyes are blinded by racism .
It shows the injustice of wrongful incarceration, and wrongful sentencing practices. This movie is a reminder of the plight of the poor people .
It also shows the strength of determination and not giving up, Stevenson never gave up on Johnny D's case even after all the threatening and embarrassment and eventually charges were dismissed.
Most importantly I understood in this movie that just need justice in this world, some mercy as well.

I hope you enjoy as you watch the movie, just get your popcorn and of course you're handkerchief to dab the tears, the movie is quite emotional and provokes so many feelings.
