Expend4bles - Movie Review
The 4th (duh) round of the Expendables Buddy Violence cash generation device for Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham (Who is rapidly becoming a favorite of mine as I love snarky corny action flicks) begins with Suarto (Iko Uwais - Snake Eyes, Wu Assassins) kicking some major ass while raiding Gaddafi's former Chemical Weapons plant. Our heroes, the Expendables is sent to intervene by Marsh (Andy Garcia).
During the confrontation, Barney (Stallone) dies in a plane crash and Christmas (Statham) is kicked out of the group by Marsh and Gina (Megan Fox who appears to be CGI enhanced and soft focused during the entire film to make her not look 37. Either that or they applied her makeup with a trowel and airbrush. But hey, great tits. The team heads out without Christmas, Christmas goes out on his own and chaos ensues.
As with the previous installments of the franchise, the banter between Christmas and Barney is great, the bodies drop like rain and the Expendables are just plain fun to watch. As is the case with all action flicks, the bad guy determines the quality of the movie. Iwo Uwais plays his part well. Tony Jaa shows up to help the Expendables in the big battle and he's fantastic as always. This movie feels like a hand-off from Stallone to Statham, Stallone is 77 with a net worth of $400M, so he's probably looking to kick back for a while.
FUN: If you liked the previous movies, you will like this one.
Preachy: Not really. This is a buddy flick and people are getting killed in all sorts of ways. I think someone might even smoke!!!
