CINETV Contest - Best Song In A Movie

Unfortunately I have not had as much free time as I would have liked over the past few weeks. This has dramatically affected my abilty to be on CINETV and talk about movies with other film afficianados like myself.

But for this week's Contest prompt I had to get writing. The contest calls for the best use of a song in a movie. Combining my love of movies with my love of music can easily get my brain and writing juices flowing.

My choice would have to be "Eye Of The Tiger" from Rocky III. How could that not be the first song from a movie to come into everyones mind. It was even a #1 song on the US Pop charts.

Add in the fact that Rocky III is one of my favorite movies of all time and we have my winner. The first notes of "Eye Of The Tiger" automatically brings a training montage to mind. The energy is intoxicating. It almost makes me want to get off the computer and go work out, lol.

There is so much going on in that movie beyond just the boxing. Love (Adrian), Loss (Mickey dying), Rivals (Clubber Lang), New Friendships (Apollo Creed), Stuggles, and eventually Winning. Something for everyone.

Pairing that song with that movie is just perfect. You can not hear the song without thinking about the movie and vice versa. So I am going to go watch Rocky III right now for about the 148th time, and probably follow it up with Rocky IV. You may want to do the same.

After a deep dive I discovered the official music video of "Eye Of The Tiger" by Survivor. It is hysterically bad, but maybe just par for the course of a music video from 1984. So cheesy but i had to watch it a few times because the song is just so good!!!

Glad to be writing about movies and music again. Would love to hear your thoughts on the song and movie as well.

Hoping for a win so I can go buy this card on Rising Star!!!

I often hear that song mostly in martials, and in some sports, movies.
That song is older than me but its one of the popular songs while I am growing up - at least in my area. :)

You made a good and concise review. I was about to pick that one up. I had the record on vinyl before I saw the movie. It's one of those tracks that are indelible to the movie, did you know that Stallone thought of the song Another One Bites the Dust before this one but couldn't get the rights, so he went with Survivor.
