Story&Summary

The main character of this anime is Vincent Oliver. Vincent Oliver lives in a small town. The town is called Waterfront. In the town of Waterfront, Vincent Oliver runs a glass shop with his father Thomas Oliver. The town is known for its fertile soil and silica-rich sand. Vincent is preparing for his glass exhibition. He finds a letter and a glass butterfly hairpin in an old storeroom. This letter was written by his childhood friend and lover, Alize Amano.

This letter reminds them of their past. As a child, Vincent could not go to school. His father tutored him. In addition, his father taught him glass work. Because of this, Vincent had no friends. But the people around him almost bullied him. One day, Alize came to their shop and met Vincent. Alize is a talented violinist and the daughter of Colonel Amano. Their friendship gradually deepens. Then the war begins and the locals join Vincent's military.

Thomas is forced to build advanced glass rectifiers for the military. Vincent and Alize have a falling out during a bombing, which leads to their separation. Alize's father goes missing in the war. Alize invites Vincent to her performance but Vincent is unable to enter at the last minute. So he watches from the roof. Inside, the owner brings the wounded Colonel Amano, which Alize reciprocates with a kiss and gratitude.

In the present, Vincent reads Alize's letter in which she confesses her love for him. Back at Vincent's workshop, he tries to burn the letter, but the blue flame transforms it into a form of Alize. The movie ends with Vincent and Alize reunited, their hands linked by the blue flame.
