"Prey, "a film that mixes horror and science fiction

The cost of filming "Prey" is said to be very low.

starts with a simple premise, with the writers writing every scene hours before filming.

Its subject matter, while original, is not in keeping with good taste.

With all this in mind, the first thing I have to say is that this film is very solid.

An alien arrives on Earth to study a possible colonisation of the planet.

With the ability to shape-shift and merge with the earthlings he kills, he ends up in a beautiful country house where two women live in a torrid relationship.

The two lovers are both attracted and repelled by an alien they believe to be human, celebrate him, reject him, disguise him as a woman, have so much fun with him, it takes them a while to realise they are facing a sinister threat.

Released in 1977 and directed by Norman J Warren, Prey is part of a series of British horror films between B-series and Z-series, as Hammer Films attempted to fill the horror film niche.

It compensates for its low budget by clearly addressing controversial issues.

Perhaps unintentionally, Prey knows how to exploit its flaws, shooting almost entirely in a single environment, the feeling of a claustrophobic production, with hints of aliens, and the fact that we see no ships, creating an unsettling atmosphere. between two lesbians in 1977 is shocking to say the least, when everything was much more difficult for the LGBTQ+ community.

The result is a film that shamelessly mixes horror, science fiction and a gay story with John Waters' own kitsch elements.

It is a macabre, funny and original film, suitable for lovers of vintage horror.
