The reimagining of the mythical Star Trek universe with the "Strange New Worlds" series has been a pleasant and sophisticated surprise for fans and neophytes of the franchise.

What has impressed me most is the ability of the makers to capture the iconic exploratory, post-humanist essence of the original 1960s saga.

Anson Mount as Captain Pike exudes a charisma and political correctness that invites you to embrace the enterprise.

And the chemistry of the cast, with actors of the talent of Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck, promises much joy.

Visually majestic and with a calibrated narrative ambition, it looks set to become the necessary backside to Discovery's darker drift.

Paramount will surely find the formula to exploit the full potential of this return to roots with standalone chapters.

So far, two 20-episode seasons have been screened and the series dates back to a decade before the Original.
