This is a Japanese film directed by Yoji Yamada. Set in the Edo period, the story follows the life of Seibei Iguchi, a low-ranking samurai living in a rural village.

Seibei is a humble and dedicated man, working as a tax official and caring for his two daughters after the death of his wife. His life is austere and marked by routine, but also by sadness and the struggle to provide for his family.

Throughout the film, Seibei faces the difficulties of being a samurai in a time of peace, where his skill with the sword is not valued as it once was.

Despite his status, Seibei is an honorable and kind man, preferring to avoid violence whenever possible. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he is reunited with his former love, Tomoe, who has returned to the village after the death of her husband.

Seibei and Tomoe's relationship develops in the midst of everyday life and family responsibilities. As their bond grows stronger, Seibei is forced to confront his past and the expectations of his role as a samurai.

The main conflict arises when Seibei becomes involved in a series of events that lead him to confront a group of rival samurai. Despite his desire to avoid violence, he is forced to fight to protect his family and those he loves.

Yoji Yamada's direction is subtle and poetic, capturing the beauty of the Japanese landscape and the emotional depth of the characters.

The cinematography and music complement the narrative, creating a melancholic and reflective atmosphere.

I don't know why, but this seems like a movie that I have watched in the past. The plot is quite familiar. Maybe I’ve seen it. Thanks for sharing
