Brian De Palma created a crime epic with this Prohibition-era blockbuster. Bolstered by a superb cast and a soaring soundtrack, it's a genre classic that remains gripping.

Kevin Costner plays federal agent Elliot Ness, who recruits a team of brave agents, including the incorruptible Jim Malone (played by Sean Connery), to stop Capone's crimes and end his reign of terror in 1930s Chicago.

His earnestness underpins the corruption, but it is Roberts Blossom, his confidant, who steals many scenes.

Of course, it is Robert de Niro who lights up the screen whenever he appears, sinking his teeth into the menacing but darkly charming role of Capone. Their magnetic confrontation beats at the heart of the film.

At the height of his showmanship, De Palma stages each of the intense exchanges with such delicacy that they explode off-screen. It is a feat of daring artistry.

The Untouchables was an immense commercial and critical triumph that still holds up incredibly well. A real achievement for all involved. A must see.

At the Academy Awards it received 4 nominations, including Best Picture, and Sean Connery won Best Supporting Actor.

Connery and Robert De Niro also won Golden Globes, cementing the film's acting triumphs.

At the US box office, The Untouchables was a huge success, grossing over $76 million on a budget of $15 million in 1987.

Worldwide, it grossed even more, with a total of $321 million, proving its immense appeal.

Star Kevin Costner and director Brian De Palma were praised for their excellent work, which elevated the genre material.

I have heard the names Kevin Costner and Sean Connery many times but their productions were a bit out of my generation, I guess. Hehe. The plot and cast sound excellent, though. I'll do well to include it in my watchlist.
