This is an intense and acclaimed film directed by Damien Chazelle, which explores the relationship between a young aspiring musician and his ruthless instructor at a prestigious music school.

The story follows Andrew Neiman, played by Miles Teller, a talented jazz drummer who dreams of becoming one of the greats of the genre.

From the beginning, it is established that Andrew is a passionate and dedicated young man, willing to sacrifice everything for his art.

The plot unfolds at the Shaffer Conservatory, one of New York's most prestigious music schools, where Andrew joins the jazz band led by the feared and demanding professor Terence Fletcher, played masterfully by J.K. Simmons.

Fletcher is known for his brutal approach and extreme teaching method, which includes public humiliations and a relentless practice regimen. From his first class, Andrew realizes that Fletcher has no tolerance for mediocrity and that his goal is to push his students to the limit, often at the cost of their mental and emotional health.

As Andrew immerses himself in the world of jazz under Fletcher's tutelage, he begins to experience intense pressure to prove himself. Fletcher uses psychological tactics to manipulate his students, resulting in an atmosphere of fierce competition and fear.

Andrew becomes obsessed with perfection and puts himself through a grueling practice regimen, neglecting his personal life and relationships. His dedication leads him to a series of sacrifices, including his relationship with his girlfriend, Nicole, who eventually becomes frustrated by his lack of attention and decides to leave him.

The film escalates as Andrew is confronted with Fletcher's brutality. At a climax, Fletcher holds an audition to select the best musicians for the band, and Andrew strives to impress his instructor.

However, despite his talent, Fletcher humiliates him and pushes him to his limits, which causes an internal struggle in Andrew between his desire to please his teacher and his own mental health.

“Whiplash” is not only a story about music, but also a profound exploration of ambition, obsession and the cost of success. The film raises questions about how far we are willing to go to achieve our dreams and whether personal sacrifice is worth it.

The relationship between Andrew and Fletcher is complex as, despite Fletcher's brutality, there is also a glimmer of mutual admiration and respect in their pursuit of excellence.

I have a feeling this movie probably tells the struggles of most artists but in a subtle tone and I’m definitely going to watch it. He sacrificed his relationship? That sounds interesting already.
