Jenny and James have been together for five years but things are getting stale in their relationship. Due to work obligations, they'll be spending Christmas separately this year - Jenny with her chaotic family in Manchester, James with his upper-class relatives in London.
On Christmas Eve, they decide to play a game: each will spend the holiday with the other's family and report back, to see whose version of Christmas is better.
Hilarity ensues as fish-out-of-water Jenny navigates the stuffy traditions of James' family while he braves the non-stop madness at Jenny's parents' house.

Through a series of mix-ups and mishaps, Jenny and James gain new appreciation for each other's backgrounds and upbringings. Most importantly, amidst all the chaos they rediscover what's truly important about the holiday - family, charity and the spirit of giving.
By the time the family dinners are over, Jenny and James just may find their relationship feeling merry and bright again too.
