The poster of Piaggio in Milan's ADI Design Museum reminds me of its vehicles like Ape, Vespa, and Liberty. These lovely models are commonly seen on the streets of Italy. The blue Ape you see in my photos here was parked in Cortona, a hill town in Tuscany.

As a beloved tourist destination, Cortona holds a unique charm. It is steeped in history, with origins dating back to the Etruscan civilization. The town's ancient walls, archaeological sites, and museums provide glimpses into its past. Its medieval buildings, narrow cobblestone streets, and quaint squares exude a timeless beauty. The well-preserved Palazzo Comunale, the Gothic-style Duomo, and the 13th-century fortress, Fortezza del Girifalco, are just a few examples of its architectural wonders.

I went there with my family and found out that it's especially popular among visitors from the United States. The 1953 American movie Roman Holiday made the classic Vespa well-known, and 50 years later, Under the Tuscan Sun did the same for Cortona. There was even a walking route in town based on the movie. I suppose many of you have also watched this famous movie? It was adapted from Frances Mayes' memoir, and it tells the story of an American woman who impulsively buys and renovates an old villa in the Tuscan countryside. Cortona served as the setting for much of the movie, showcasing its intriguing streets, picturesque landscapes, and rustic charm.

Since the town is perched on a hilltop in the heart of Tuscany, we can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves create a picturesque backdrop that captivates our senses. Despite its busy main streets being packed with tourists, I believe it's still worthwhile to pay a visit to this charming town.

This must be one of the most picturesque parts of Europe. Both, the landscapes and the towns. Tuscany has been very high on my travel list for quite some time already... Great shots, Donica! :)
