Mean Girls | Almost too gay to function

There are many mixed feelings about this movie, because from the beginning I don't like remakes, because they are rarely good, besides, with a movie as good as Mean Girls (2004), it is not at all necessary to make a new one, but then I found out that it is not a remake, but a movie inspired by the musical, and that the movie is going to be a musical too, that was enough for me to want it to be made. I am happy after seeing it.

What is Mean Girls about? Well the same thing, Cady is home-schooled and finally goes to study at a school, where she meets Janis and Damian, who become her friends, plus The Plastics, formed by Regina, Karen, and Gretchen. Regina ends up stabbing Cady in the back, so Cady, Janis, and Damian end up putting together a plan to make Regina lose her throne and her power in the school, and all that is happening while they sing songs, dance, and are happy, although they are not always happy.

Hay muchos sentimientos encontrados con esta película, porque desde un principio los remakes no me gustan, pues muy pocas veces suelen ser buenos, además, con una película tan buena como Mean Girls (2004), no es para nada necesario hacer una nueva, pero entonces me entero de que no es un remake, si no que es una película inspirada en el musical, y que la película va a ser un musical también, eso fue suficiente para que después sí quisiera que se hiciera. Soy feliz después de verla.

¿De qué trata esta Mean Girls? Pues de lo mismo, Cady fue educada en casa y finalmente va a estudiar en una escuela, ahí conoce a Janis y Damian, quienes se hacen sus amigos, además de The Plastics, formado por Regina, Karen, y Gretchen. Regina termina apuñalando a Cady por la espalda, así que Cady, Janis y Damian terminan armando un plan para hacer que Regina pierda su trono y su poder en la escuela, y todo eso está sucediendo mientras cantan canciones, bailan, y son felices, aunque no siempre son felices.

The bad thing about the movie is that even though it is inspired by the musical and not the movie, you could expect changes, but no, there are no changes, it is almost the same movie from beginning to end, and if something that I dislike, is when remakes or things inspired by others end up being 1: 1, that is, an exact copy of the original material, and no, it should never be like that, it's horrible, if there is the possibility of taking creative licenses, you have to take them, if there is already a good solid base, you have to try to find a way to make it better.

My favorite character is Damian, both in the previous one and in this one, so here I'm going to complain, in the previous one Damian is the gay friend that can be replaced by anyone, they didn't give him the place he deserved, and here it wasn't like that, well, at least that's how I want to believe. In this movie he has more presence, he has little more prominence, but we don't know anything about him, we don't know his story, there's nothing emotional or anything that can serve to connect with him, just that he's gay, and that's it, I mean, maybe a little more construction on his character would be better if they decide to make a third Mean Girls movie, and yes, I know the story never focuses on him, but still, having a character so long on screen without giving him a story, it feels wrong.

La malo de la película, es que a pesar de que es inspirada en el musical, y no en la película, se podría llegar a esperar de que hubiera cambios, pero no, no hay cambios, es casi la misma película de principio a fin, y si algo que me disgusta a mí, es cuando los remakes o cosas inspiradas en otras terminan siendo 1:1, es decir, una exacta copia del material original, y no, nunca debería ser así, es horrible, si existe la posibilidad de tomarse licensias creativas, hay que tomarlas, si ya hay una buena base sólida, hay que tratar de buscar la forma de hacerlo mejor.

Mi personaje favorito es Damian, tanto en la anterior como en esta, así que aquí me voy a quejar, en la anterior Damian es el amigo gay que puede ser reemplazado por cualquiera, no le dieron el lugar que merecía, y aqui no fue así, bueno, al menos así quiero creer. En esta película de verdad tiene más presencia, tiene un poco más de protagonismo, pero es que no se sabe nada de él, no conocemos su historia, no hay nada emocional o cualquier cosa que pueda servir para conectar con él, solo que es gay, y ya, o sea, quizás un poco más de construcción en su personaje sería mejor, si es que deciden hacer una tercera película de Mean Girls, y sí, sé que la historia nunca se centra en él, pero igual, tener a un personaje tanto tiempo en pantalla sin darle una historia, se siente mal.

The songs are great, not all of them, because it's almost impossible for all the songs in a musical movie to be great, or important, so it's understandable that few songs like or feel better than the rest, but not for me, I liked all the songs, and each one has its reason to be, each song is part of the story, and they are important, even if you think they are irrelevant and unnecessary, but they are not, because there is one song near the middle that almost everyone hates, and it is one of the most fun songs out there because it describes Karen's character perfectly, and without that song, the character goes under the table.

Speaking of Karen, they did a lobotomy on her and left her a blank, fuck, I feel like they ruined Karen more and made her worse than Damian, and to say that is already a lot, well yes, Karen can be part of The Plastics and be a pretty face, and half an idiot, but here she is a complete idiot, who laughs because she is always going to laugh, but I do feel like her character is the most empty of the whole movie in general.

Las canciones son geniales, no todas, porque es casi imposible que todas las canciones en una película musical sean geniales, o importantes, así que se entiende que pocas canciones realmente gusten o se sientan mejores que el resto, pero no para mí, me gustaron todas las canciones, y cada una tiene su razón de ser, cada canción es parte de la historia, y son importantes, aunque crean que son irrelevantes e innecesarias, pero no, porque hay una canción cerca de la mitad que casi todo el mundo odia, y es en realidad una de las canciones más divertidas que existen porque describe a la perfección el personaje de Karen, y sin esa canción, el personaje pasa debajo de la mesa.

Hablando de Karen, de verdad que le hicieron una lobotomía y la dejaron en blanco, joder, siento que arruinaron más a Karen y quedó peor que Damian, y decir eso ya es mucho, pues sí, Karen puede ser parte de The Plastics y ser una cara bonita, y medio idiota, pero aquí es una idiota por completo, que da risa, porque siempre va a dar risa, pero si siento que su personaje es el más vacío de toda la película en general.

Reneé Rapp as Regina George is the most amazing thing in the movie, she ate the character, she lived it, she was the perfect embodiment of Regina, and we thank her for that, because Rachel McAdams, is hard to top, and Reneé did amazing. Cady, on the other hand, was just.... Cady didn't stand out at all. I loved this version of Janis and Damian, they did great, although Janis has certain changes that some people may not like, but I liked them.

Lately, I feel like everything I like is bad, and that I liked this musical even though it's not the best... I don't know, I've never cared for it anyway, I always know that I usually like bad movies, but lately I feel like what's slightly good, isn't good at all, according to second opinions, and I don't know, it feels weird. Reneé Rapp como Regina George es la cosa más increíble de la película, ella se comió el personaje, lo vivió, fue la personificación perfecta de Regina, y le agradecemos por eso, porque Rachel McAddams, es difícil de superar, y Reneé lo hizo increíble. Por otro lado, Cady fue solo... Cady, no destacó para nada. Amé a esta versión de Janis y Damian, lo hicieron muy bien, aunque Janis tiene ciertos cambios que a algunas personas no les puede gustar, pero a mí me gustaron.

Ultimamente siento que todo lo que me gusta en realidad es malo, y que esta musical me haya gustado aunque en realidad no sea lo mejor... no sé, igual nunca me ha importado, siempre sé que a mí me suelen gustar películas que son malas, pero ultimamente siento que lo que es ligeramente bueno, no es bueno para nada, según segundas opiniones, y no sé, se siente raro.
